2008 Volunteer Excellence Award

Thrivent Financial's Volunteer Excellence Award program recognizes members, financial representatives and employees of the organization who, through example and accomplishment during the past year, provided outstanding volunteer service that made a significant impact in his or her Thrivent chapter and community.

Nominees are Thrivent Financial members who, in 2007, actively demonstrated our mission of caring for others through volunteering in their communities and congregations, as well as with other Thrivent members through chapters. (Nominees must have been a Thrivent Financial member for at least one year.) The amount and type of volunteering through and with Thrivent Financial are used in determining our four national Volunteer Excellence Award recipients.

Each Volunteer Excellence Award National recipient will receive a $2,000 charitable contribution to be awarded to the charity of his/her choice, and regional award recipients will receive a $250 charitable contribution to be awarded to the charity of their choice.

Do you know an outstanding volunteer? Would you like to nominate him/her for this award?
Fill out this application, then send it to a member of the Lutheran Community Services Team.
Applications must be received by an LCS Team member no later than 31 January 2008.

View videos honoring the members, employees and financial representatives selected as 2007 Volunteer Excellence Award recipients to see the impact they have on the organizations they support and the people they volunteer with. (Recipients of the 2007 Volunteer Excellence Award were honored for their service during the 2006 fiscal year.) Also watch to see how volunteering with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans can positively affect you and causes you care about.

Kinsmen Lutheran Church Member Named Recipient of Ben Powell Servant Award

Bob Fox
For Bob Fox, volunteering is a lifelong commitment. Fox, a senior administrator at Kinsmen, traces his involvement with Lutheran Social Services of the South back to 1983.  "I chaired the first Tomorrow's Child Golf Tournament in Austin," he recalls fondly.  "Back then we were raising money to reduce the medical bills attached to some of the babies LSS cared for in the adoption program."  Since then, Fox has supported LSS in some way each year, and has become a major volunteer supporter for Krause Children's Residential Treatment Center in Katy, Texas, which provides help, healing and hope to children in need throughout the Houston area.

For Fox, the reasons to volunteer are simple and clear.  "We have all been blessed and we need to give back as we are able," he said.  "The children served by Krause do not pick their lives, parents or home situations.  And the people at Krause Center who are mentors, friends, teachers and role models to the Krause Kids have gifts that allow them to help guide these young people.  So it is up to all of us to do everything possible to help these folks achieve their ministry."

It is this dedication to returning his blessings to the community that has earned Fox this year's Ben Powell Servant Award by Krause Children's Center.  The award is given in memory of Ben Powell.  Ben was a longtime volunteer who dedicated his time to the service of the children and truly demonstrated the quality of serving the needs of the children.  For Fox the award is an honor to the memory of Powell, with whom he worked for many years on the golf tournament.

Fox would like to thank his wife, Betty, and his adult children Don, Dan and Debbie; his grandchildren Katelyn and Dalton, for their support and encouragement.  He hopes winning this award will inspire more people around him to get involved and make a difference in the lives of children in need.
