Thrivent Builds Mobile a.k.a. "The Big Red Truck"

Thrivent Builds Mobile

The Thrivent Builds Mobile is a bright red multimedia exhibit on wheels that tells the story of poverty housing in America and the simple steps we can take to be part of the solution.

This multimedia exhibit features intriguing video testimonials and stunning visual displays to create a moving and educational experience that just might change the way you see the world and others around you.

A visit to the Thrivent Builds Mobile takes just a few minutes, and yet the experience has the power to be life changing, for you, for your family and for the more than 14 million Americans who have critical housing needs.

This year, the Thrivent Builds Mobile will be visiting the Texas State Arts & Crafts Fair in Kerrville, TX. Come out and take a tour through the truck May 23rd - 26th.

Thrivent Builds Homes

Millions of people—from families with small children to elderly couples on a fixed income—live in houses that are overcrowded, unhealthy, even dangerous. People living in these conditions struggle to achieve even the most foundational needs: food, water, safety and rest. When survival needs go unmet, families cannot turn their attention to higher needs such as education, emotional health, career and healthy relationships. Living in substandard conditions yields a constant mix of despair, stress and a preoccupation with “getting by.”

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and Habitat for Humanity are joining together in an unprecedented alliance that will put the faith of Lutherans and their communities into action to help families in need move into the economic mainstream and put an end to poverty housing.

Thrivent Financial sponsors the construction of hundreds of Habitat homes annually and seek to engage thousands of volunteers in Habitat homebuilding projects. Sixty-five percent of the funding for each Thrivent Builds home will come from Thrivent Financial with 35 percent of the remaining funding coming from the continuing fund-raising efforts of local Thrivent chapters and Habitat for Humanity affiliates.

Thrivent Builds Neighborhoods will help communities plan for real change

Thrivent Builds Neighborhoods is building more than homes – it’s helping to rebuild entire communities. The program seeks to improve many factors in a neighborhood so that the people who live and work there can enjoy a better life, like:

  • Safety.
  • Recreation.
  • Education.
  • Health care.
  • Financial literacy.
  • Housing.

In 2007, community coalitions in four locations received planning grants. For these communities, the planning grant is really the first step toward real change. Often, this type of funding is the hardest for communities to find. That’s why the Thrivent Builds Neighborhoods program is so important – it creates a strong foundation for the coalitions to begin their work. Each coalition includes representation from:

  • The local Thrivent regional financial office.
  • The local Habitat for Humanity affiliate.
  • Neighborhood residents.
  • Local community development organizations
  • Municipalities.
  • Other organizations that care about the community

More information on the Thrivent Builds Neighborhoods program and current locations is available on the Thrivent Builds website.

Thrivent Builds Worldwide

Thrivent Financial promotes short-term (one- to three-weeks) trips in conjunction with Habitat’s Global Village program by its members and Lutheran congregations to build homes abroad and in the Gulf Coast. Thrivent Builds Worldwide trips give participants a unique opportunity to become active partners with people of other cultures. Team members work alongside members of a Habitat for Humanity host community, raising awareness of the burden of poverty housing and building decent, affordable homes worldwide.
