Stewardship Thought:
1 Corinthians 10:19-31; 11:1: What a beautiful reminder that whatever we do we do to the glory of God and the welfare of those around us! Maturing stewards, by the power of the Holy Spirit, do the right things for the right reasons and strive for excellence in all they do—not for their own glory and praise but for the praise and glory of our gracious God!

This year our congregation’s extra mission will have a local emphasis. One effort will be to assist the Hands Foundation in getting winter assistance to homeless veterans. We will donate any monies that come in the “Missions” portion of the envelopes during January and February to this project.

Senior Citizen and New Member Brunch
The Board of Christian Growth and Outreach will be coordinating a potluck brunch today for our senior citizens (those 65 and over) and the new members to the congregation from the past two years. The Senior Citizens and new members are NOT to bring a dish for the potluck. Hope to see you there!

The season of Lent begins February 22nd, Ash Wednesday, with services at 4:00pm and 7:30pm. Our theme for this coming Lent is “God’s Gift of Forgiveness”, especially as we find this forgiveness in the seven penitential psalms and in the practice of Confession and Absolution. The services and sermons talk about the nature of sin as seen in the psalms, the devastating effects it has on the soul and the conscience, and what we receive through God’s gift of the forgiveness of sins in our Lord Jesus Christ. Make plans to be a part of Lent this year.

Lot's of ink has been spilled in an effort to come to terms with the "Messianic Secret" in Mark.
It could have all been prevented if we could just get more theologians to watch cop shows on TV.
A leper came to him begging him, and kneeling he said to him, "If you choose, you can make me clean." Moved with pity, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him, "I do choose. Be made clean!" Immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. After sternly warning him he sent him away at once, saying to him, "See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them." But he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the word, so that Jesus could no longer go into a town openly, but stayed out in the country; and people came to him from every quarter.
