Tips for Sharing
Reprinted with permission from Lutheran Hour Ministries Someone recently asked me: "What do I say when someone asks me why God made their friend or family member sick?"
In reading what the Bible has to say about God's character, the most plain answer I can provide is: God did not make her/him sick.
If it were God's will for people to be sick, Christ would have gone around making people sick and causing them to die. However, He did not. Instead, He brought healing to
sicknesses of all kind, He cast out demons, brought Lazarus back to life and healed people from their sins.
Christ came to do the will of God: "For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day" (John 6:38-39). Therefore, sickness and murder cannot be God's will, or God would have had Christ do this.
However, Christ did come to do God's will; and, throughout His ministry, we see Him healing people of their sicknesses. Therefore, life and healing are God's will.
God is not the afflicter. He is our healer. He sent Christ to not only be a physical healer on His behalf but to be the spiritual healer of all to make us spiritually whole again and
reconcile us to God.
Being Christ's witnesses should not only be displayed by the words we speak but also by the way we live our lives. Simple tips to remember for living righteously from James 1:
- Be quick to listen
- Be slow to speak, and
- Be slow to become angry
Why? "... For man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires." James 1:19-20
Update on Greeters for our worship services
There are many of you that have not yet committed to greeting on a Sunday service. Especially need 8 AM greeters. Please let me know the service you normally attend and when you would like to greet your fellow worshipers by name. Every member will have an opportunity to greet about twice a year. Should you have a specific Sunday in mind please let me know soon. The “good” Sundays are filling up fast.
