The Happy C.L.A.M. News - November 16 and 23, 2009

(This issue contains information for the next two weeks)

Our two Bible stories this week are about Daniel.  Daniel was faithful to God because he knew of God’s love and faithfulness to him.  God helped Daniel to be strong in the Lord and to resist temptation.  God rescued Daniel from the lions’ den. Next week we learn about being thankful for all that God has given us.

Memory

Wednesday:  I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised.  Psalm 18:3

Friday: The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. Hebrews 13:6

Coming home with this newsletter:

  • Memory Work list for the next four weeks and an introduction to our new religion unit, Waiting.

  • The spelling list for the next five units.  Please keep this sheet since it contains the words that will be on the review test in January.

In reading this week, we will finish our second reader and take a book test.  We begin our third reading unit on Wednesday. We have the main skill of short e (as in jet) and using double consonants _ll, _ss, _ff, _zz after short vowels (will, mess, puff, fuzz).  The high frequency words for the week are: help, now, said, so, who.

In spelling this week, we will be spelling words with the short /u/ sound.  Words to be tested on Friday are: fun, us, but, sun, bus, cut, up, cup and two bonus words with the short /u/ sound.

Important items to note:

1. Thursday: Library –please return all books.  Thanksgiving lunch for all who ordered.

2. K-1 will again sponsor a cookie sale.  Each family is asked to bake 2 dozen or more cookies.  The sale will take place Dec. 7-11. Proceeds will be going toward Project Hope – you will receive detailed information later – this is just a “HEADS UP” notice.

Smile of the week: It just so happened that all three members of the same carpool had perfect papers the other morning.  Jacob mentioned that it was a “car-incidence”!  That is quite the pun.

Thanksgiving break is November 25-29! Have a blessed and thankful holiday and remember
