Our Troop was started by a group of Scout Leaders at Christ Baptist Church in 1927. They wanted a Boy Scout Troop open to all the boys of the neighborhood, not a Troop only for the boys of the Baptist Church, as the Troop at the Church was at that time.Having started the separate Troop, the leadership soon found it necesary to find a new sponsor and a new home. Each year as the Troop grew it needed a new home, and a new sponsor. In 1930 it was left to a Group of Citizens to become the sponsor and unfortunately the basement of one adult became its meeting place.
It was about this time that a new Pastor came to St. Jacobi Lutheran Church, the Rev. Dr. Bauchman, DD. One of the early questions he had was, whether or not, the Church had a Boy Scout Troop. It did not. Upon becoming the Pastor he set out to contact the local Boy Scout Council about starting one.
Troop 350 was looking for a more permanent home and the Pastor was looking for a Boy Scout program. The local Council Officials got the two together and Boy Scouting has been a part of St. Jacobi ever since 1931.
Our numbers are currently small, but we provide an active program greater than our size might suggest:
On January 31, 2008 the latest Charter to operat the Boy Scout Program at St. Jacabi expired. Although much effort was put into restartin in 2008 and early 2009 it never came to fruition. The Congregation also decided in January 2009 to go into a Transistion period to plan for a revamped Ministry in the future. This meant all activity in the build was stopped and we will wait until the building reopens to retart Scouting.
