The Words of the Cross

This Lent we will take a close look at the Last Words that Jesus spoke during His crucifixion
Please come and join us as we remember that even when He suffered, even when everyone had abandoned Him, He still cared for us!
February 22, Ash Wednesday “From Dust We Came and to Dust We Shall Return”
February 29, “Why Have You Forsaken Me?”
Even Christ know what it felt like to be alone and forsaken. Yet He continued to follow His Father’s will, even to death itself.

March 7 “Father Forgive Them”
Jesus sets the example of what it truly means to forgive.

March 14 “Jesus, Remember Me”
It’s never too late. Not for the thief on the cross. Not for anyone in this world. Not for even you.

March 21 “Into Your Hands”
We often find this world to be overwhelming. We need to follow Jesus’ example and place ourselves in our Father’s hands.

March 28 “I Have Prayed for You”
We are never alone. Jesus is always there for us, not only thinking about us, but actively helping us at every turn.

Holy Week Schedule

Passion Weekend – March 31st, 7 p.m. + April 1st, 9:00 + 11:00 a.m.
This Weekend concentrates on our Lord’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem and continues through to His death on the cross.

Maundy Thursday – April 5th, 7:00 p.m.
On this day we remember the love and grace Christ gave, and continues to give to us through the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

Good Friday – April 6th, 7:00 p.m.
Good Friday, the most holy day of all days, we hear once again the greatest story of love and forgiveness ever told. We hear how Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, died so that all of our sins would be forgiven and all of our wounds healed. This service closes with a beautiful dance depicting the Lord’s Prayer.

Easter Eve – Saturday, April 7th at 5:00 p.m.
A service that bridges the darkness and despair of Good Friday to the light and hope of Easter!

Easter Sunday – April 8th, 9:00 + 11:00 a.m.
The day we hear of our Lord Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead, and how He promises us that death no longer has any power over us, but is merely the gate to eternal life!
P.S: Easter Breakfast will be provided between the two services

Please make a special effort not only to attend these services, but also to invite family and friends, so they too may hear God’s Word of love, forgiveness and salvation!

NURSERY
We are now providing the option for parents to bring their children, (infants - 4 years old), to our Nursery Room, (Bethlehem), during the 0:00 a.m. service. The children will be at worship through Children's Time, and then may be brought to the Nursery. This will also be a Sunday School class for the children who attend. We'll be using the same Sparks curriculum used during the regular Sunday School hour.
THIS IS ONLY A SERVICE PROVIDED FOR PARENTS WHO CHOOSE TO USE IT. IT IS NOT REQUIRED.
THIS WEEKS LESSON
Today’s Bible verses are telling us that the things that we are working so hard trying achieve should not be the most important thing in our lives. If we live our lives for God, then all else is unimportant, because He will always provide everything we need.
Larry Luther

1 JOHN 2:15-17
1. Do not love the world or the things in the world. The love of the Father is not in those who love the world;
16. for all that is in the world – the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, the pride in riches – comes not from the Father but the world.
17. And the world and its desire are passing away, but those who do the will of God live
forever.

Human desires and material things do not last, but those who do God’s will have life everlasting. We must always remember what God has done for us and what He will do for us if we live our lives serving him.

This is not to say that we do not need have worldly things to live and be happy, but we must not put those things ahead of God. If we do that it is the same as worshipping or making those worldly things our god. Always be thankful for what you have and know that God has provided them for us.

EMPTY INK & TONER CARTRIDGES WANTED All brands of empty ink and toner cartridges are being collected. Proceeds from this will go to buy office supplies. There is a box in the coatroom for your donations.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY Our prayer shawl ministry has gotten off to a good start. We have three women from Hope joining the women at Gloria Dei once a month. We encourage others to join us. If we get enough people to join us we will start meeting at Hope Lutheran. Take time to check out the display in the narthex. There are brochures and shawl instructions for you to take, samples of the card that is given to the shawl recipient and a sample shawl. If you knit or crochet and would like to participate in this wonderful ministry, feel free to pick up some instructions and start a shawl. We are also taking donations to purchase supplies to help offset the expense of the shawls. If you wish to make a donation or have any other questions feel free to contact Nancy Coffman @ 396-0387, Betty Nelson @ 362-0721, or Rhonda Taschner @ 363-5789.

Going on vacation? Can't make church this weekend? Make it easy on yourself and check out the Simply Giving Program. This program allows you to have your offering automatically withdrawn from your checking account. This is perfect especially during the summer months when attendance is down because everyone is so busy. If this sounds like a good time saver for you, contact the church office or Betty Nelson and they will get the paperwork needed to get you set up.

Update and Clarification of Memorial Money All money given for memorials is held in the Memorial Fund. This Fund is within the General Fund, but Memorial Funds are never to be used to pay bills associated with the day to day operation of the church.

If there is a specific request that the money is to be used for at the time it is given, that money is set aside and used only for that particular item or purpose. If there is no specific request at the time the money is given, the money remains in the Memorial Account until a specific item, or items are purchased for the church.

All items to be purchased, with Memorial Money must be approved by the church Council.

All Memorials are to be place in envelopes specially marked for Memorials (available in the narthex) and placed in the weekly offering, or given to Rose Dougherty or Betty Nelson.

Thank you.
Betty Nelson
