2010 Church Council

February Council Minutes
*Present: Julie, Merle, Merry, Wanda, Jennifer, Bev, Pastor John, Heather Livingston, Duane, Nate, Tami
*Duane called the meeting to order.
*Devotions by Pastor John
*Minutes from January 7th, 2010 meeting were read by Heather. Bev made a motion to approve the minutes, Merry 2nd the motion. Approved.
*Property Committee Report: Jim recommends that the church look into getting new lights and fixtures due to the current lightig being dangerous.
*Pastor's Report: Pastor John reports that Jane and Darris will accompany him to the Twin Cities to interview a potentital intern. Pastor John also reports that 8 people have signed up for the adult confirmation class which will start on Feb 21st. Church records are currently being updated using Shepherd Staff computer program. Council retreat is scheduled for Feb 20th, at Lake Metigoshe Christian Center. Synod Assembly in Dickinson is the first weekend in June. Comments from the shy lutheran ballot were reviewed.
*Treasurer's Report: Bev made a motion to approve paying bills. Nate 2nd the motion. Approved. Bev made motion to approve the treasurer's report. Julie 2nd the motion. Approved.
* The following committees were discussed:
1. Audit Committee: motion made by Bev to nominate Larry Melgaard, Merle 2nd the motion. Approved
2.Call Committee: Congregational profile was discussed, Sharlet will be contacted to see if this was submitted or not
3. Education Committee: Tami will contact current Sunday school, confirmation, and LYO leaders about being a part of this committee. Tami and Merry also volunteered to serve on this committee.
4. Executive Committee: this consists of the council president, vice president, secretary, and pastor. The goal of this committee in the future would be to meet to approve bills with the full council meeting every other month.
5. Memorial & Endowment Committee: No action at this time
6. Music Committee: They choose hymns for the service and this is done by mail, no other action at this time.
7. Nominating Committee: No action at this time
8. Property Committee: Jim reported earlier in the meeting. Motion made by Bev to have a lighting professional come look at the church and make lighting recommendations, Merry 2nd the motion. Approved.
*Snow removal discussed, this is currently being done by Ronny Martinson and this is going well.
*Next meeting will be Wednesday, March 10th @ 8pm.
*Meeting closed with the Lord's Prayer.

January Council Minutes
Pastor's Report: Pastor Kari Williamson will be delivering he message this coming Sunday. Pastor John states that 4 people have signed up for the adult confirmation class. The Lenten services coming up this spring will be held at 5pm with soup/sandwiches being served after service. Pastor Joh also reports that Christmas Eve service attendance was very good with 220 people. Pastor also stated that an application was made to get an intern starting August 2010.
December minutes were approved.
Tresurer's Report: A motion was approved to combine the furnace fund and the maintenance fund in the one fund. Bills were approved
Cleaning of the church was discussed. Kris is doing the cleaning in exchange for rent. This starts in January and she will continue to do this through April.
Church us by outside groups was discussed. A motion was made that for-profit groups would pay a fee of $20 for using the church up to 4 hours, $40 for the day or 8 hours. Non-profit groups may use the church for free or may make a donation if they wish.
The annual report was looked over by the council and corrections were made as necessary. The annual reports will be mailed out soon to all members of the congregation for the annual meeting on Jan 24th.
