On Saturday February 13 all supporters of Lutheran Latino Ministries are encouraged to carry out the Love Box Project.

The purpose of the Love Box Project is to provide an opportunity for those who normally support the ministry by contributing money, to be involved in a hands-on, face-to-face mission project.

Preparation:
Identify several needy families who live in the vicinity of your congregation and make arrangements to visit them on February 13. Begin with members or regular attendees from your own congregation. (Galatians 6:10)
Gather donations of non-perishable and fresh foods.
Be sure to include some candy and flowers - it's Valentine's Day!
Organize a team of people to help.
Gather (and decorate?) boxes to contain the food.

On February 13:
Volunteers and supplies meet at your church.
Begin with a brief devotion (available on this web site to copy and print)
Assemble the Love Boxes. Be sure to include a message of Christian love, special Valentine tract or other Christian message.
Deliver the food boxes to the needy families.

After the event:
Please email your results to Lutheran Latino Ministries. We'd like to know how many volunteers participated in the project and how many food boxes you gave away.

A Devotion for the Love Box Project
Before assembling the Love Boxes:

Leader: Therefore, as we have the opportunity,
All: let us do good to all people, especially to those who
belong to the family of believers. (Galatians 6:10)

Leader: He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor;
All: his righteousness endures forever. (Psalm 112:9)

Leader: You will be made rich in every way so that you can be
generous on every occasion,
All: and through us your generosity will result in
thanksgiving to God.

Leader: This service that you perform is not only supplying the
needs of God’s people
All: but it is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.

Leader: Because of the service by which you have
proved yourselves,
All: men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies
your confession the gospel of Christ.
(2 Corinthians 9: 11-13)

When the Love Boxes are assembled and ready to deliver, the group may offer a prayer like the one that follows:

Oh, God, you give us everything we need to support this body and life; you provide for the needs of all people and sometimes you use our hands and feet and cars to do so. Please bless these gifts we have prepared to serve the poor in your name. Give us comforting words, and let this expression of your love for them nourish and refresh their body and speak hope to their hearts; and let them give all the thanks and glory to you. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
