Dear All,

I am trying to update as many of you as possible concerning Pastor David Neng Lor's condition.

I saw him yesterday and he was in a wheelchair outside of his room. He had just had therapy and they were changing his bedding. He still spends the major portion of his day in bed, but they are getting him up more and more each day. His trach tube was "sealed" off so that he could talk, so things are coming well with that. He is able to move his right leg easily and two days ago began to move his fingers on his right hand. This is great news! He has no problem with his eye and he is able to talk, although it is easier for him to talk in Hmong and then have his wife interpret. The great news, however, has a little cloud - his head was beginning to hurt again. - same place and same kind of hurt. They did tell the Dr. and he was to schedule an MRI yesterday afternoon to see what is going on.
David seemed very happy with my visit today as I shared with him the possibility of having the Hmong people see the sermons on the projection equipment and in this way keep up the Hmong work that he was doing. He and I both had tears as I told him what "may" and (we pray) WILL happen to keep the Hmong work going. As I think this through, our congregation, especially the two families that have been bringing the Hmong people, will need to have KOW and his Mom identify and contact the Hmong families so that they are ready for the screening of the MN sermons. As I finished my devotion with him today, Neng was able to pray with me the Lord's Prayer, quietly, yet mouthing the words and with a firm ‘AMEN!’ He squeezed my hand and we knew that God is answering our prayers and will continue to take care of him, his family,
and the Hmong family of believers.
I told Hlao that she should call when she is going to be home for a while and Lois and I will come over and try to straighten out the insurance. We will also see what other concerns she might have. As of today, $5,630.00 has been sent as gifts; this is being used to support the Lor family. There have been 34 different people and/or congregations that have sent gifts; each has received a letter of acknowledgement and thanks.
I pray that you will share this good news with others and send forth a prayer of thanks to our Heavenly Father for the answered prayers.

Pastor Lyle (Duke) Sonntag

Subject: Pastor Lor's update, 2-27-06

Hi all,

Here is the latest on Pastor Lor. We have much to be thankful for!

Pastor Lor is looking much improved from the last three weeks- awake, eyes more alert, moving the bad leg more, responding to questions with a nod and wanting to talk, etc.
Doctors were very positive about his recovery. He was moved to a rehabilitation place.

They will be giving him a ‘swallow test’ in the next few days to see if he can eat- soup/soft foods, etc. He will probably be taken off of antibiotics in the next few days.

Recovery will be long. Pastor Lor will need to learn to walk all over again- best estimate will be at least 30 days in rehab. The rehab doctor said David is a good candidate- young, strong - and expects recovery to be fine with some possible limitations on use of his right arm. He still is not showing any motion in his right arm.

The doctor asked about his home for follow-up rehabilitation. After explaining about 8 kids, two-story house, taking kids to school, etc., the doctor said the family will most likely need some additional outside help when David comes home.

Sometime soon they will temporarily put a plastic plug in the trachea hole for short periods of time. (He would be able to talk then). If he can breathe normally for 2 hours with a plug, they will consider removing the trachea tube.

That is what I have learned today. The Lord is answering our prayers!

Pastor Sonntag sent this update on Friday, February 24th:

I saw Pastor Lor yesterday. He is awake and alert. He continues to improve, meaning
that the infection is going away. He is still not able to talk and he said
that he could not move his arm yet. He still has a long way to go, so
continue to pray for him, his wife and his family. We do not know what will
happen with the Hmong mission here, until Pastor Lor recovers.

The Mission Board and all concerned are trying to find answers.

Pray that God will send laborers to work in these ripe fields.

Below is the e-mail that Pastor Jay Lo sent:

Dear Brothers,

I just want to let you all know about the current condition of our brother,
Neng. As of late Tuesday until today his condition is improving a lot. Now
he gained a little strength on his right leg. He can push his right leg down,
but not up yet. He can move his toe back and forth. His right side is
starting to gain strength and getting warm and the blood getting to flow almost normal.
On Tuesday afternoon, the doctor came and removed the tube from his mouth
and they put the life support tube into his throat instead of through the mouth.

Neng is awake fully and remembers everybody that visits him. He is trying to speak by

moving his mouth, but still has no sound or word yet. It will take some time for him to recover his speech.

Yesterday afternoon, the doctor came to take X-ray of his chest and head to
see his condition, but they have not come back to let us know yet. When
we know, I will pass it to all of you.

I will try to call all his members and try to have Bible class or devotion
with them on this Friday night or Saturday morning before I return to
Minnesota. Because since Neng was sick they have not been to Church or
have any Bible class yet.

Thank you for all your prayers and please keep praying for Neng and pray for
his wife, Hlao, so that she will continue to be patient in taking care of her
family and her husband at the same time.

In Christ,
Pastor Jay Lo
