CHAPEL Chapel was led by Pastor Birtell. He asked the students if they had lost anything. Some of the items mentioned were – their dog or cat, house keys, a shoe, socks, a personal fashion book, basketball (the dog took it). Pastor read from Mark 16 where we hear about the women coming to take care of Jesus’ body, and find he is not there! When we go through tough or sad times in our lives, sometimes we wonder where Jesus is – we can’t seem to find him. Great news! He is always with us, and He seeks us out! We can help others find Jesus when we make it our mission to tell others about His great gift of salvation, and show them through our actions what Jesus is like. Then a lot of the lost will be found!

GLORIFY GOD WITH YOUR OFFERING This semester our chapel offerings will go to sponsor a special-needs camper for “His Kids Camp” at Camp Luther. The cost of sponsoring one person is $400. Thanks for your continued support of this mission! So far we have collected $276.45.

BACKPACK DEVOTIONS On Tuesday, these students will take home the backpack: Jaeden, Abby & Tate.

NO SCHOOL There will be no school on April 26 & 27 as the teachers will be attending the NETA Teacher Conference.

BELL CHOIR God blessed our performance at the Gathering of Talents, indeed! The students did an awesome job, and we apparently got a purple ribbon! Thanks to all the parents who brought their ringers to Seward!

CHOIR We will sing again on May 13th for Kindergarten and 8th Grade graduation. Grade 3-8 will also perform for the LLL dinner on Sunday, April 29th.

PLANT SALE Thanks to everyone who sold plants! Together our families sold almost $6900! We are very grateful for your support! These students received awards for the top sellers this week: Adyson, Jacob B, Cadge; and for the Preschool/Daycare the top 3 were: Baylee Settje, Alaina Rosendahl & Kenna Dicke. All children who sell at least $50 will get to attend our pizza lunch party on Wednesday, April 25th. Please consider when you can help work the sale – many hands are needed – a sign-up form was included in last week’s Update. If you would like us to send reminders to your customers, please send us a note or call.

MAP TESTING Will take place next week. Students will be taking assessments on the computer in reading, language and math. Students will do their best when they have a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast! It is also very important that they are in school every day!

SPECIAL PTO MEETING We will hold a special PTO meeting the week of May 7th. Instead of meeting after the awards night, we would like to hold an evening meeting where we can share information about the MAPS testing scores, demonstrate our technology (Mimio Interactive White Board), and make plans for the 2012-2013 school year. Our student body president and vice-president will have ideas to present, also!

LUTHERAN SCHOOL FIELD DAY Friday, May 4th is our Lutheran Schools’ Track Meet. Once again it will be held at Lakeview. A permission slip is attached, as well as a sign-up sheet for helping with the softball throw. (We have had some great help in the past!!)

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL CHANGE The school board has changed the last day of school to Tuesday, May 15th. We will have our softball game, hot dog lunch and dismiss at noon. We will have our preschool program and awards night on Wednesday, May 16th at 6:30pm.

Little Room News: This week the students have been working on a few new addition and subtraction facts and the second grade are starting to work on some multiplication facts. The second grade are also learning to write in cursive. They have been waiting for this for awhile and are excited to learn this new way of writing. In science, the students are learning all about weather. They learned about the water cycle and did experiments to show evaporation and condensation. 1-2 Spelling Lesson: 29

Middle Room News: This week the student’s starting on reports about topics related to their reading stories. Grade 5 is researching ocean storms after reading a historical fiction story about the Mayflower voyage. Grade 4 is researching an important person from the Gold Rush after reading an informational article about that time period. Grade 3 is researching a desert in the U.S. after their special poetry reading of nature “celebrations” in the desert. The students began a study of the earth, learning about what makes up the earth. They read about volcanoes, earthquakes, and made a “seismograph”. We know that God made the earth, how long it took Him (days), and how He made it (“Let it be”)! And it didn’t take millions and millions of years! There will be no Spelling Unit next week.

Big Room News: This week the big room students have been continuing to research for their reports. They have found all types of information about their subjects. Next week, they will construct their final copy. Also this week, the students have been hard at work in math. Most of the students are learning about subjects like probability, surveys, data displays, and the measures of central tendency. In Course 3, we are discussing polynomials and the different operations we can do with them. In PE, the students are getting ready for the Lutheran Schools Track Meet on May 4th.

Preschool News: We are continuing to review the alphabet and sounds as we near the end of the school year. The students are trying to be patient as they wait on God to make their flowers grow! It has been a true test of their patience! We all had some fun acting out the poem “Five Pretty Flowers” with craft stick flower puppets this week. We celebrated Izabel Hollatz’s 5th Birthday (April 22) and her Baptism birthday (June 3rd).

Our Star Student for the week is Austin Maurer, 8th grade
 He likes to go hunting and fishing
 His favorite book is “My Side of The Mountain”
 He likes to help out on the farm
 He likes to hang out with his friends
What he likes best about his family is they live on a farm and are Christians
