CONFIRMATION GUIDELINES & REQUIREMENTS
Confirmation is for students in the 7th & 8th grade (Middle School)

• Class assignments may be changed periodically because of bad weather or other conflicts that may arise with either the students or pastors. Sometimes the pastors are called away on an emergency and classes will have to be canceled on short notice. The pastors will notify the school and have it announced if they are able.
• If school is canceled due to bad weather, confirmation classes are also canceled for that day.
• All class members are to call the lay assistant(s) or pastor if there are any questions regarding the assigned work.
• Students are expected to make-up all work that is not handed in or not completed because of illness or general absenteeism.
• All assigned work and memory work must be completed before the Rite of Confirmation can take place. The pastor and lay assistant(s) will determine the due dates of assigned work.
• Three (3) unexcused absences and the student will be dropped from the class roster. These unexcused absences can and will be canceled with a written note or telephone call from the parent(s) as to why the student was absent.
• If the student misses three (3) class periods without proper parental permission the student will be dropped from the class and a meeting with the parent(s) must take place with the pastor and not the lay assistant to determine what can be done to change the pattern of motivation and absenteeism with their child(ren).
• The pastors and lay assistant(s) have the right to ask any student to leave the class if the student if disruptive, rude or refuses to do his/her assigned work. A telephone call or letter will be sent to the parent(s) informing them of their child’s behavior (or lack of getting work completed) and ask the parent(s) to speak to their child about their improper behavior. RUDE BEHAVIOR will NOT be tolerated by either the pastor or lay assistant(s).
• At the completion of the two year program the students are REQUIRED to know by memory: The Apostles’ Creed and meanings, The Ten Commandments and meanings, and The Lord’s Prayer. Memory work can either by written out or given orally without aides in front of the pastor.

These CONFIRMATION GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS are the policy of the Shalom Lutheran Board of Deacons, Board of Education, Congregational Council and the Shalom Lutheran Church Congregation. Adopted: July 22, 1990
