About Holy Spirit, Leonia NJ
A merger of a Missouri Synod and Lutheran Church in America congregation founded Holy Spirit Church in 1970. Founding principles based on reconcilliation, hospitality, and hope continue to be important characteristics in the life of the congregation. We gather around God's Word and sacraments to experience God's grace and inspiration. We believe that knowing Christ changes perspective, encourages good relationships, and guides understanding of how life is to be lived in the world and in the church. Here you will find people of all ages with diverse backgrounds and interests. We believe that Jesus Christ, the central figure of faith, came as a result of God's wish to bring salvation and new life for all people and nations. As an expression of this faith, we engage in a variety of outreach ministries that benefit both the congregation and world community. Our faith is rooted in Biblical teachings, the Lutheran Confessions, and Reformation tradition.

Holy Spirit Lutheran Church is a member congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) New Jersey Synod Meadowlands Mission Cluster. We enjoy relationships with various Lutheran, ecumenical, and interfaith partners at the local, regional, and national levels, including the Bergen County Council of Churches and the Leonia Council of Churches and Synagogues. In a shared effort with other churches, Holy Spirit provides support for Leonia's Ecumenical Youth Group, Good Friday Walk, and Community Thanksgiving Service. In addition, the congregation hosts a Boy Scout Troop, Girl Scout Troop, Narcotics Anonymous Group (NA), Divorce Care Support Group, Holy Fire Presbyterian Church, English As A Second Language (ESL) classes, and various mission outreach projects.

Each year the congregation provides support to Shelter Our Sisters (SOS), the Inter—Religious Fellowship (IRF), the Bergen County Housing, Health, and Human Services Center (BCHHHSC), Oelhaf House (domestic violence shelter), Center for Food Action (CFA), ELCA World Hunger and Disaster Relief, Bergen County Council of Churches, and several other special mission projects.

There are a variety of opportunities for members and friends to use their interests and talents to make a difference in the world and there are regular opportunities for spiritual growth, Bible Study, Prayer, and worship.
