Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church of Palos Verdes invites you and your family to a worship experience and an unforgettable journey along the Southern California coastline!
If you are relocating, planning a vacation, visiting relatives, or live in the greater South Bay area of Los Angeles, join your fellow Lutherans in worship at our Traditional Worship Service on Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. or our Family Worship and Praise Service at 11:11 a.m. Adult Bible Class meets on Sunday at 8:15 a.m. Junior Church, for preschoolers through fifth graders, is held after the Children's Message during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning Worship Service.
Saint Paul's is approximately twenty miles south of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Our church is situated on the scenic Palos Verdes Peninsula overlooking the vast Pacific Ocean and Santa Catalina Island. We are located at 31290 Palos Verdes Drive West, a short distance east from where Hawthorne Blvd. and PV Drive West intersect in full view of the magnificent coastline. If calling after 3:00 p.m., leave a message on the church’s voice mail system, and a staff member will return your call.
Available to you after our Sunday services are great restaurants in the Golden Cove Center adjacent to the church, and more in the Peninsula community.
A variety of points of interest in the immediate and surrounding areas may appeal to your recreational pursuits. Across from our facility are the picturesque Point Vicente Lighthouse and Interpretive Center, a favorite, local whale-watching location during migration seasons.
Along the coastline one mile southeast of Saint Paul’s is Terranea, a newly built, massive, $480-million, blufftop, Mediterranean-style destination resort which opened in June 2009 with a 360-room luxury hotel (including an 18,000-square-foot ballroom), 32 villas, 50 casitas, a nine-hole golf course, public hiking trails, seven restaurants, and many other amenities. All are architecturally designed with careful attention to their unique environment and positioned on 102 acres of the former Marineland of the Pacific site offering sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean below and Santa Catalina Island, 26 miles in the distance.
For fourteen years prior to its closure two decades ago, the dolphin arena at Marineland was the site of the community’s annual Easter Sunrise Service sponsored solely by Saint Paul’s. Each year, the traditional service featured our beloved Pastor Tom Cooper delivering the biblical message of the Resurrection and our Saint Paul’s Sanctuary Choir’s rendition of inspirational anthems. This unique congregational outreach ministry was attended by an average of 3,000 worshippers each year.
Within the next mile along the coastline is Wayfarers Chapel, recorded on the National Registry of Historic Places and designed by Lloyd Wright, son of famed American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. Also known as “The Glass Church,” Wayfarers is open to visitors throughout the week.
Continuing southeast, you will find the Trump National Golf Course, Point Fermin Lighthouse, Korean Bell, Cabrillo Beach and Maritime Museum, and the Ports O’ Call Village in San Pedro adjacent to the Los Angeles harbor, our nation’s largest and busiest cargo seaport. Long Beach is easily accessible from San Pedro via the toll-free Vincent Thomas Bridge that connects with the Long Beach waterfront, the original Queen Mary, and the Aquarium of the Pacific.
