Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has launched a new charitable grant program and benefit of membership called Thrivent ChoiceSM. Choice DollarsSM will be designated to some Thrivent Financial members. Thrivent Financial member eligibility will be based on fraternal benefit society product ownership and Thrivent Financial volunteer leadership. If you are a Thrivent Financial member who learns you will be eligible to direct Choice DollarsSM, we ask you to consider Calvary as you help direct Thrivent Financial’s charitable funds. Calvary is registered in the Choice Dollars database, and members can log onto www.thrivent.com/choice or call 1-800-236-3736 to designate Calvary as a recipient for the money you are assigned to allocate.

Calvary is collecting Coins for CareNet to support their ministry. Thrivent has agreed to match fifty cents on the dollar, up to $300, for all coins collected. Pick up a baby bottle at Calvary and return it by May 19.

Calvary is hosting the Walk for Life to benefit CareNet on Saturday, June 15, from 9:00 - 11:00 am. We will use Thrivent monies to purchase coffee, water and ice for the event.

How Thrivent Helps Calvary
Calvary Lutheran Church belongs to the Northeast DuPage Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Thrivent makes funds available to Calvary in two ways.
1. The Northeast DuPage Chapter gives Calvary discretionary funds each year for us to use to fund small projects within our congregation. We can also request Operating Funds from the Chapter to fund additional small projects.
2. The Care in Communities program allows Calvary to request a limited amount of funds each year to benefit local organizations or families. These may be matching funds for fundraisers, or operating funds to cover the costs of service activities.

Thrivent requires that at least six member households participate in planning the event. Member households are those Calvary families who have purchased insurance or other financial products from Thrivent Financial for Lurtherans. Currently Calvary is blessed to have 52 members from 27 households.

Special Projects and Events Funded by Thrivent
Over the past few years Thrivent has funded numerous events at Calvary. Here is a sampling of some of them.
1. Easter Breakfast – Thrivent has provided matching funds to Calvary for the monies collected at our annual Easter Breakfast. These monies have helped support our the Wood Dale Food Pantry and have helped purchase new tables and a digital projection system.
2. Confirmation Reception – Our Congregation hosts a reception each year to honor our confirmands. Calvary has used its discretionary funds to provide the refreshments for the reception.
3. Mission Dinner – Each year Calvary holds a dinner to raise money for a selected missionary organization. Thrivent has provided matching funds for the monies collected at the dinner that are passed on to the mission organizations.
4. Vacation Bible School – Thrivent has provided funds to our Vacation Bible School to purchase decorations for the event.
5. Family Advent Night - Calvary has begun a new tradition of welcoming the Advent Season by holding a chili dinner and doing a mission project. Thrivent has provided operating funds for this event.
6. Angel Tree – Each year congregation members purchase Christmas gifts to benefit needy families or children in the community. Our Congregational Coordinators have used our discretionary funds to participate in the project.
7. Christmas Candy Sacks - It's a tradition at Calvary for Thrivent to provide the Sunday Morning Kids Club children with candy sacks after they present their Christmas program.
Members of Calvary celebrate the Advent Season by doing a mission project on Family Advent Night.
