Greetings in the name of the Triune God, Whom we worship and serve. The fact that you are reading this probably suggests that you are at least a little interested in getting to know more about who we are, and perhaps you'd like to get to know us better. Permit me to fill you in...
Peace Lutheran Church is a congregation with an interesting past, a blessed present, and (we believe) a hope for the future. Our roots go back to the beginning of history when God promised Adam and Eve that He would provide a Savior because they had fallen to sin. We follow that promise to its fulfillment in the cross of Jesus Christ. We continue to follow it through Jesus' great commission to spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth. A part of that journey takes us through the Lutheran Reformation in the 1500, and eventually to the founding of the Missouri Synod in the 1800. Shortly after World War II, area lutherans began looking to the Mainland of Galveston County as a place to plant a congregation. When Disaster Relief money sent to the Texas District of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod exceeded needs at the time of the Texas City "Disaster", leaders decided to use the money to "plant" Peace Lutheran. Our first members were dedicated to bringing a Word and Sacrament ministry here. They wanted to faithfully worship God in accordance with Holy Scripture and the teachings of the historic Lutheran Confessions...to grow spiritually as disciples and stewards of Jesus Christ through faithful Bible Study...to reach out and witness, bringing the Word of God to life for commitment to Jesus Christ...to nurture fellowship through friendship, harmony, loving care, and understanding among members of Christ's Body...and to teach the young (and not-so-young) the grace and counsel of God for life and service to Jesus Christ and our fellowman. Our present members are still dedicated to that vision.
You may already know us without realizing it...you may have attended Journey To Bethlehem at Peace Lutheran in early December some time in the past without really paying attention to who your host was. Or you may have attended our Easter Make-And-Take Craft Fair at some time in the past on the Saturday before Palm Sunday, and given your kids the opportunity to connect with the story of our Lord's death and resurrection. These are a couple of events that we host each year to tell the people of Galveston County that we love you in the Name of Jesus Christ.
These are programs that we provide each year to reach out to our neighbors. Of course, there are ministries that we provide every day, every week, every month, because we care in the Name of Jesus Christ. Bible Study Groups meet at Church and in members' homes to keep us grounded in God's Word. Our music ministry includes choir for adults, and adult hand chime and children's bell choir. Our Education Department provides weekly Sunday School training, a Vacation Bible School each summer, a Youth Ministry program, and Confirmation Instruction. Our Senior Fellowship meets every other week for spiritual and social interaction. The ladies of the congregation involve themselves in many ministries to use the talents that they have recieved from God to be a blessing here and around the world...just one of those programs is our Braille Ministry Workshop.
We would love to have you visit us, and consider becoming a part of our family.
Our faith is based upon the teachings of Martin Luther.
