June Events
This month we had some more great events at St. James. On June 22, the Children's Service put on by the Sunday School performed their version of the "David Betterman Show" and the Kindergarten Class sang "Jesus Loves Me" and "Fisher's of Men". The I'm Sorry Benefit for Nicole Woods and her family raised over $1,200. The Youth Group had its first Prize Bingo on June 13. The Anniversary Day Parade was great! We had the best turn out of Sunday School Students out of all the other attending Churches! Hopefully next year we'll have our own Float. The Health Fair was a great success! Thanks to all who attended.

Our Children's Service was performed by the Sunday School Students on June 22. Being the last day of Sunday School, the kids did a wonderful job kicking off their summer vacation. The "David Betterman Show" had us all laughing and enjoying their version of what the past year has helped them learn. Some students received attendance awards. We will miss Eileen Cavanaugh, our Sunday School Superintendant, next year. She will be moving and her shoes will be very hard to fill!

As many are already aware, we recently did a collection during our coffee hour for the family of Nicole Woods from Holy Trinity. Seeing the outpour of donnations in that one sitting, a Benefit "I'm Sorry" game was hosted by Barbara Fernandez on June 21st. Thanks to her absolute commitment to serving others and the generous hearts of all who attended or helped financially, the amount raised was over $1,200 at last count. We have created an earmarked fund, and hope to continue to be able to help this family in need. If you'd like to make a donnation, they are still being accepted, it is still not too late!

The support shown from our community as a whole has uplifted our hearts as well as those of members of Holy Trinity. We are so very proud to have been a part of a great Fundraiser. Thank you Barbara Fernandez for coming up with the idea, the people who attended and joined in the fun and thanks also to the businesses which made monetary and raffle donnations!
Thank You Letter from Barbara Fernandez
On behalf of St. James and Holy Trinity, I want to thank all of those who attended the benefit for Nicole Woods, and to those that could not attend, but made a donnation. Although the funds we raised will be a great help to Nicole and her family, let us all remember that what we can do to help them does not stop there. The road ahead is still a long one so I ask that you keep Nicole and her family in your daily prayers. If you were unable to attend the "I'm Sorry" night at St. James on June 21st, but would still like to make a donation, you can make out a check payable to:

Holy Trinity Athletic Association
Holy Trinity
4118 Avenue R
Brooklyn, N.Y. 11229
Att: Joyce Athletic Assoc.

Or you can make it out to Holy Trinity Athletic Assoc., and bring it to St. James Lutheran Church, and we will get it to Nicole's family. God Bless all of you and God Bless Nicole.

Sincerely,
Barbara Fernandez

All Donations are tax deductible. For more information call (718) 769-6643.

Some Sunday School Students and a few friends had a great time on June 13th. The Youth Groups meeting on Friday nights have Linda Hanson to thank for her excellent ideas. What could have been another rainy night staying home turned out to be a great opportunity to come out and have some fun with friends. This was the first Prize Bingo for kids, and everyone went home a winner!

Please don't forget to join us this summer. We are hoping to keep the Youth Nights going and anticipate a bunch of fun filled Fridays. As long as the demand for it remains, we will be able to continue providing arts & crafts, games & contests! If you haven't come to one yet, please try it at least once. Fridays starting at 6:30 p.m. and ending roughly around 9:00 p.m.

St. James Receives Super Service Certificate
St. James was presented with a Super Service Certificate before Sunday Service began on June 8. For the first time in many years, the Church basement was utilized by all levels of Girl Scouting this past year. Much appreciation goes out to Saint James from all the Troop Leaders!
June 7th Health Fair

Checking Blood Pressure
Thanks goes out to all who attended our First Community Health Fair. Many health care organizations were represented, including, the Gerritsen Beach Volunteer Fire Department who gave free CPR training, Cabrini Hospice, reducing stress with Laura Olsen, the American Cancer Society, Coney Island Hospital, an American Red Cross Blood Collection Van, Health Plus, a dentist, interns from Levitown Health Center, Lutheran Medical, Thrivent and even a clown who gave out balloons and painted faces!

Anniversary Day Parade

On Thursday, June 5th, we joined other Congregations in the Anniversary Day Parade. Meeting at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, paraders marched holding banners and some younger Sunday School students rode in floats. Saint James is hoping to have it's very own float for next years parade!
Thanks From Our Troops
We have been receiving letters of thanks from some overseas soldiers who have gotten our care packages. There was a plaque and American Flag (which was flown over Baghdad in our honor) mailed to us from one soldier. Another, turning only 20 in June, will be getting a Birthday card signed by our Sunday School students and Congregation. The Supplies Drive we did had an exceptional response and we'd like to extend our Sincere Thanks all who helped. We all pray for their safe return soon.
