March Youth Group Report
Youth Group Report
March 10, 2009
The Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper was successful and delicious! There are some talented chefs among the Youth. There was a good will offering of about $165.00 which Bobbi will submit to Thrivent for matching funds.
March 22 is scheduled for lunch and bowling after church, however I have a conflict – Mackenzie has an event at her college for parents. Would anyone be willing to take the kids that day? or would it be better to reschedule? Alternatively, I’m available on Saturday, March 21. Please let me know.
Wednesday, March 25 is the date for Youth to host the Lenten Soup Supper along with the Finance Committee. I’ll send a reminder e-mail to the Youth.
The scheduled date for our next Youth Spaghetti Dinner is April 24 from 4:30-7:00. I’ll have the signs updated and get them out early so we have good attendance. Hopefully, starting earlier in the evening will attract the families from Day Care.

Lutheran Night at the Senators
Bishop Hoover will throw out the first pitch at Lutheran Night with the Senators on May 1, 2009. Lutheran night benefits the Lutheran Camping Corporation Campership Fund. Tickets are $6-$2 of which goes to help Camp Nawakwa and Camp Kirchenwald. There is a ski cap give-a-way before the game and fireworks following the game. The Senators will be playing against the Reading Phillies. If you or a group from your congregation would like to attend, please contact Mac Simmons or call (717) 231-4444.
Lutheran Youth Day 2009 information: April 18 at Susquehanna University. It is for Youth in grades 6-12 and includes:
Large and small group gatherings exploring the theme “Let’s Celebrate!” High-energy music, skits and icebreakers by talented students during large group gatherings; Exploring faith and life in small groups with SU students who are committed Christians; Worship at the end of the afternoon; and A Concluding Concert by Jonathan Rundman!
The cost is only $10 per person, which includes lunch and the concert. (What a deal! But if that sum would prevent any of your youth from participating, please contact us. We can reduce or waive the fee for youth with financial need.) Also the SU’s Lutheran Student Movement is selling t-shirts for the day. The shirts MUST be ordered and paid for by April 6th. Shirts will not be for sale on April 18th. You can use the enclosed registration form to order these shirts.
Registration is from 9:00 ~ 9:45 a.m. with the opening session at 10 a.m., and the event ends at 5:30 p.m. All large group gatherings are in SU’s Stretansky Hall.
Camping information
Summer Camp Open House at Camp Nawakwa or Camp Kirchenwald on Sunday, March 29, or Sunday, April 19, from 2:00-4:30 PM, for 2009. There will be camp tours, a chance to meet summer staff, and a $10 gift certificate to the camp store for all NEW campers.
Some interesting information regarding camping – the TOTAL number of campers last summer at both Nawakwa and Kirchenwald was LESS than the number of kids that attended Winterfest in January. I think, as a Congregation, we should be proud of our camp attendance!

January 18 was the Eagles football party. Lots of fun - just wish the Eagles would have won the game!
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper (with the Youth cooking and serving) will be on February 24 from 6:00 – 7:00. There is no charge but an offering is appreciated.
From Pastor:
St Pauls is having a family/fellowship ministry event at Roundtop on Sunday, Feb 22, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. They have a limit of 50 people, and it is $16 per person for the hour. We would need to check with our youth and have them pay in advance, and check with St Pauls to make sure they still have tickets available.
St. Peters and St. Pauls are planning to get together and have invited our youth group to participate. If there is interest among the Youth, I think this would be a great opportunity.
What would be a good date for Bowling? Is Sunday afternoon good for Youth? I’m looking at March 22 for lunch and bowling after church.
Wednesday, March 25 is the date for Youth to host the Lenten Soup Supper along with the Finance Committee.
We need to set a date for another Spaghetti Dinner. Bobbi Shuey said she can get matching funds from Thrivent. She will need the date and the amount of profit for her report.

A Gift For Santa
Sunday School classes presented their annual Christmas Play “A GIFT FOR SANTA” on Sunday, December 9 at 11:30. Rolla Lehman, II starred as a disgruntled Santa Claus, employed by a local mall, who is worn out with giving, giving, giving. A variety of people, including children and teens, on their way to a Christmas party at “Grandma’s house” near the bus stop where Santa waits tiredly for the bus, teach him about the best Christmas gift of all. Directing the cast was Carrie Allen, assisted by Janet Davis and Robin McCann.

CLC Youth Attend Winterfest 2007
High school students from Christ Lutheran Church attended Winterfest 2007 with over 850 other students from the Lower Susquehanna Synod. The 2007 theme, “It’s NOT all about me, called to serve,” tackled the issue of how we serve others in Christ’s name! Youth heard from peers who are serving in international communities in Tanzania, Mexico, and Haiti, and from peers who have traveled to serve in hurricane devastated Mississippi. Local service was hands-on, as youth gave over 5400 pounds of food, toiletries, blankets and coats to local shelters in Lancaster County.

One of the many music groups that performed at Winterfest 2007

Marisa Hunt to help with Hurricane Relief
Marisa Hunt will be travelling to Ocean Springs, Mississippi from December 26 - January 2 to help with the relief efforts from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. She will be part of a group of about 12 young adults that will be performing a wide variety of services which may include carpentry and roofing. This mission trip is a very low cost for them, however then need to pay for travel and food while going to and returning from the disaster area. Marisa would like to ask anyone who is able to support them in their mission efforts this winter. Whether it be prayer support or financial, both are needed and very much appreciated. Please write (Hurrican Relief) on a general giving envelope or hand it to Marisa directly.
Marisa says, "Thank you and God bless!"

Youth Outing - May 7, 2006 - Miniature Golf & Pizza!!

Winterfest 2006
CLC Youth attended the Lower Susquehanna Synod's Winterfest 2006 on January 6-8 at the Lancaster Host Resort and Conference Center. Craig Martek jr, Zach Martek, Marisa Hunt, Rebecca Davis and Allison Davis were among 800+ teens of the Lower Susquehanna Synod for a weekend retreat to enjoy the fellowship of fellow Christian teens and grow closer to God through small and large group sessions.

The theme of the retreat was Law and Order, focusing on Jesus' response to the question which is the greatest commandment in the Law, to which Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:34-40)

During the large group sessions as well as during the final worship service, uplifting songs of praise were performed by Mark Cable. Also during the large group sessions was a modern version of the parable in which Jesus challenged those wishing to stone a prostitute with the advice - Let him without sin cast the first stone. The Winterfest version was modeled after the popular show Law and Order, with a young man being brought to trial for unkind things that he's done to past girlfriends. The small group sessions encouraged the youth to discuss the trial in progress, including the topics of sin, punishment and forgiveness. At the conclusion of the Law and Order skit, we learn that the young man's defense attorney is Jesus, who again uses the words, Let him without sin cast the first stone, but also challenges the young man to sin no more. It was a very good demonstration of how God's laws as well as His love and forgiveness through the death and resurrection of His son, Jesus, are still very applicable to our modern lives.

It was a very powerful, yet fun, retreat for all involved, including chaparones Joanne Hunt and Craig Martek Sr.

Hey Parents! Hey Kids!! Childcare during worship!

We have just started a childcare service after the children's homily. Thanks to Marisa Hunt, Rebecca & Alison Davis, Candace Myers, Craig Martek and Jenny Fabick, the younger children can enjoy some worship related stories, crafts and other fun during a portion of the worship service. We've had a great response since they started from both the kids and the parents!
