About Our Congregations
West Freeborn- Our Congregation was founded 136 years ago. The first church was constructed of sod and logs. This building was used for many years until the congregation out grew it. The members then decided to build a frame church on the present site. It contained the first bell in Freeborn County. It weighed 300 pounds and cost $800 dollars. On July 4, 1934 it was struck by lightning and burned to the ground. All that was saved was a melted hunk of metal that was once the bell. Soon after this they decided to build a new church. The forth building project was in 1964 with the addition of a lobby and sunday school unit. The church continues to be used to this day and hopefully for many years to come.
Cross of Glory- Cross of Glory's beginings go back to early pioneer days. It consisted of what is now two churches, (Cross of Glory and Hartland Evengelical Lutheran church). The first Cross of glory church was built in 1915 and was used until 1964 when a new church was built. The new church is still used to this day and has many members.
