CHAMPAIGN COUNTY THRIVENT CHAPTER MEETING
Monday, June 9, 2003 6:30PM
St Matthew Lutheran Church, Urbana
The June meeting of the Champaign County Chapter of
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans was called to order by
Chairman Judy Rademacher with 11 members present.
The
minutes of the May meeting were mailed out along with the
agenda for this meeting. A motion was made, seconded and
carried to approve the minutes as presented.
A motion to
accept 32 new members (13 benefit; 8 associate and 11
youth) into our Chapter, was made, seconded and carried.
The Financial Director handed out a copy of our income
and spending thus far. Our current operating funds balance
is $5,173.04. Chapter expenses amounting to $268.26 have
been paid for postage, and other equipment and supplies. He
is having difficulty doing the banking online, cannot stay
connected. Deposits for various Care in Communities have
been received, but have not been distributed due to
computer problems. It was suggested he call first thing in
the morning before they get busy to see what the problem is
and hopefully get it corrected as soon as possible, so that
he can do the funding of our various projects online.
Discussed number of churches in the chapter without
coordinators. A list of the congregations without the three
congregational coordinators will be given to Mike and he
will follow up on them.
Norm, our internet advisor, handed
out a printed copy of work he has done on the web page for
our Chapter. Discussed information available and how to get
onto the web page. He also sent out e-mails to each board
member reminding them of the meeting this evening.
Feedback and discussion on the Training Session held at
St. John's was the next item of business. Contact will be
made with the Vermilion County Chapter about setting up a
dual County training day.
Unfinished Business:
$10,000 total in matching funds ($5,000 for Mennega;
$5,000 for DeMay) for fundraiser on June 26th. Almost
$7,000 has already been raised for these two families.
Discussion followed on getting the funds from these
fundraisers into the account and then from Thrivent was
discussed.
The fundraiser for the two families in Sadorus was
discussed. The activities and events were to be held on May
18th. No one has gotten back to the chapter on results of
benefit.
Discussed the small turnout for the Celebration of
Missions and Music Ministry, but was a very good program.
St. John's Library Books project should be completed by the
end of the month.
A letter from Rev. John Setterlund was read by Judy,
indicating that he cannot locate a used portable ultrasound
machine, but will inquire about the cost of a new one.
Having consulted both local hospitals , he has come up with
one donated machine, which is not a portable one and will
cost at least $1,000 to ship. Discussion of other options,
including cluing in other chapters followed, but decided to
wait until more information was available and maybe someone
should go to a sales representative for hospitals for
information on used machines.
New Projects:
Rev. Melinda Halom requested funding for a Community
Youth Ministry High School Lock-In to be held October
25-26. 11 Lutheran congregations are actively involved with
between 100 - 300 youth expected. Servant event speaker
will be Shawn Smith, and request Thrivent to underwrite
honorarium of $1,900 for him. $10 will be collected from
each person attending. Discussed contacting other counties
for more funding. Erwin moved and Bob seconded to approve
$800 for this event. MC.
Discussed possible funding of $300 for housing/food for
55 Swedish Singers coming to Immanuel Lutheran Church for
concert on Wednesday, June 25th. Motion was made by Bob and
seconded by Erwin to approve $300.00. MC.
Lynette (with Norm's help) will get information together
on Chapter Mailing and request one to be sent as soon as
possible. Decided not to participate in Joins Hands Day
event in Oregon, IL, because of distance.
A special meeting
to set up procedures and guidelines will be scheduled for
later this month. Norm will e-mail each officer to see what
date and time will work best for them.
Michael, our Congregational Service Team Director, will
be moving away from the area by August. Bob will be gone
for the next 2 ½ months, working on a project in Indiana,
so will miss the at least the next 3 meetings.
Our monthly
meetings will be held on the second Monday of each month,
beginning at 6:30 p.m.at least for July and August. July
14th we will meet at Peace Lutheran Church, Thomasboro;
Please use the East entrance; and August 11th we will meet
at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Broadlands. Motion to adjourn
was made, seconded and carried. Respectfully submitted,
Lynette D. Renfrow
