October 15, 2009 COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

Those Present: Council Members Doug Ogden, Roger Silk, Doug Aardema, Karen Hosticka, Becky Wahr, Al Wheeler, Nancy Dahl, Chuck Wagner, Those Absent: Mary Jo Thies, Alaina Moreau

Meeting called to order at 6:05 p.m.

Opening Devotions: Doug Ogden – Pastor Ogden opened the meeting with a Gospel Reading.

Recent Signs of God’s Grace: Karen Hosticka shared her thankfulness to return safely home from a recent road trip.

Financial Reports: There have been no unusual or unexpected expenses. Spending is under control. The October payment to Synod will be held upon further review of expenses. Chuck Wagner motioned to accept the Financial Reports, Karen Hosticka seconded the motion, and there was unanimous consent.

Pastor Ogden reported on the following: An inspection of the elevators: A new State of MI law as found us in a safety violation with a gap between the elevator door and the accordion door. McNally Company has been contacted to correct it, and they have filed the permit to do so.

Hall Electric has been contacted to begin installing parking lot lights.

Chuck Wagner moved that the elevator repair funds be taken from Discretionary Memorial funds. Karen Hosticka seconded the motion, it was carried unanimously.

Secretary’s Report: Karen Hosticka motioned, Chuck Wagner seconded to accept the Secretary’s report, unanimous consent was given.

Pastor’s Report: Pastor Ogden reported on technology, blog, e-newsletter and a Church website. We discussed whether we would like to commit to improving technology, if so – we need to budget for it. Pastor Ogden will gather information for the Council.

Action Items:

Vision and Leadership: The next Council meeting will focus on the nominating procedure. We will be spending quality time reviewing the positions which will need to be filled for the upcoming ballot.

Each Council member shall give an opinion on standing committee descriptions, to discuss options and delete or add as needed. Currently 5 of the 7 standing committees do not meet regularly.

We will also review council duties and goals. Are we doing what the description suggests, or should we change the description?

The next council meeting is November 19, 2009

Meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m., we closed with the Lord’s Prayer.
