Tax-free IRA distribution law extended.

New legislation extends the popular Pension Protection Act of 2006 provision that allows taxpayers over 70-1/2 to make tax-free distributions from their traditional and Roth IRAs ( Individual Retirement Accounts) directly to charity in 2008 and 2009. The provision is retroactive to January 1, 2008, and will apply to gifts made from that date through December 31, 2009.

FIVE IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT HOSPICE SERVICES

1. Most families wish they had sought hospice care for their loved one sooner.

Hospice is not just for the final days of life. Hospice offers state-of-the-art disease and pain management from the time the decision is made to enter hospice care until the last breath is taken. The goal of hospice treatment is to keep patients comfortable and improve the quality of life throughout the end of life process.

2. You have the choice in hospice providers. Receiving a terminal diagnosis is very overwhelming. We can provide you with questions to ask when seeking a hospice provider for yourself or your loved one.

3. Hospice provides multi-dimensional care for the patient and the family (Medical, Social Work, Spiritual Care, Volunteer and Bereavement Support). Hospice treats the whole family as 'the unit of care' and support is available to help throughout the dying process. Bereavement support is also available to the family following the death of a loved one.

4. Nurses are on-call 24/7. Help is always available no matter what the time of day or day of the week.

5. It is not necessary to have had your loved one in hospice care to receive bereavement services. Anyone who has lost a loved one may make an appointment with one of our bereavement social workers.
