JOIN HANDS DAY was started eight years ago as a way to help bring visibility to who fraternal benefit societies are and what they do. This one day is an opportunity to generate awareness about the powerful impact we have across the nation—every day—through the grassroots volunteer efforts of our members in communities big and small. | | Potato Drop - Lee Chapter | On Saturday, May 12, 2007, the Lee County Thrivent Chapter, in coordination with the Society of St. Andrew, worked on a "Join Hands" activity truly worth all our effort. The Society of St. Andrew, a national, nonprofit hunger-relief organization with operations in Florida, recovered excess potatoes from growers to be distributed for hunger relief in Lee County. There was 44,000 pounds of potatoes delivered to Christ Lutheran Church in Cape Coral. Volunteers "joined hands" to bag the potatoes for distribution to various organizations that provide food for the needy in Lee County.

Lee County Chapter receives a National Join Hands Day Award |

On Saturday, May 12, 44,000 pounds of potatoes were dumped in to Christ Lutheran’s parking lot in Cape Coral. This Join Hands Day Event was in partnership with the Society of St. Andrew. The Society of St. Andrew, a national, nonprofit hunger-relief organization with operations in Florida, recovered excess potatoes from growers to be distributed for hunger relief in Lee County. Volunteers "joined hands" to bag the potatoes for distribution to various relief organizations that provide food for the needy in Lee County. 350 volunteers from over 23 congregations bagged over 2,500 bags and donated over 1250 hours.
