Care in Regions
Through the Care in Regions program, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provides funding for members of multiple chapters to come together, through community service teams, and work with their regional manager of Lutheran community services (MLCS) to address a significant regional need(s). The community service teams conduct fund-raising activities, appeals/collections and/or hands-on service activities that benefit individuals, families and not-for-profit organizations (including congregations) with significant needs. All activities are approved by the MLCS.

Thanks to the work of several chapters and hundreds of volunteers, in 2005 more than $200,000 was raised to benefit needy children and youth.

In 2006, we'll continue to build on our theme of "Helping Needy Children, Supporting Youth Initiatives". The program has been divided into $5,000 funding blocks. If a Care in Regions project is approved, dollars will be supplemented on a one dollar for three dollars raised basis. For example, if multiple service teams raise $15,000, another $5,000 will be added for a total of $20,000. Trinity Lutheran High School Dinner and Oral Auction
On January 23, the Thrivent members from the Jackson-Jennings County Chapter of Thrivent Financial along with many of the school supporters presented a silent and oral auction along with a dinner to raise funds for the tuition fund at the school. Thrivent's "Care in Regions" provided $7,500.

LuFest
On March 11, LuFest, a dinner and oral auction for Lutheran High School in Indianapolis, was held downtown. For each $3 raised by the oral auction, Thrivent's "Care in Regions" supplemented a $1 donation, resulting in a $10,000 grant from "Care in Regions." The South Marion County Chapter of Thrivent Financial along with four other area Thrivent chapters assisted with donations, volunteers and overall support.
Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis
On June 17, Thrivent members from the West Allen County Chapter of Thrivent and other volunteers walked the Fort Wayne Wizards Memorial stadium to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis clinic at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Thrivent's "Care in Regions" provided $15,000.
Lutherwood Golf Outing
On June 17, the Hamilton County Chapter (IN) of Thrivent Financial sponsored a regionwide golf outing for the Lutheran Child and Family Services Chapel in Indianapolis. Thrivent's "Care in Regions" provided $5,000.

Tornado Damage-Disaster Response
With the help of a $3,000 "Care in Regions" grant from Thrivent Finanical for Lutherans, members of Faith Lutheran Church in Hopkinsville, KY, contributed 238 manhours to rebuild the home of a victim of an April 2, 2006 tornado that ripped through western Kentucky. On July 14, this team of volunteers from the Southwest KY Chapter were led by Mike MacDowell, treasurer of the Southwest Kentucky Chapter, who coordinated the project. Workers tore out the old carpet and vinyl flooring throughout the house and replaced it with new flooring and carpet. In addition, workers installed six new ceiling fans with lights in several rooms. A new porch was rebuilt after the debris and remaining porch had been removed. The ceilings in several rooms were repainted and all walls were cleaned thoroughly. Windows had to be repaired and re-set. Mrs. Manningly, a single parent, expressed her appreciation to the church for their hard work and kindness.

Miles for Myles

On October 15, there was a benefit for the family of Myles Hubert, a little boy that suffered from neuroblastoma cancer and recently passed away. His family has a lot of medical expenses that mounted over the period of time of his illness, so Thrivent members from St. James Lutheran Church, the Hancock County Thrivent Chapter and the Indiana Region of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans supported an event at Party Tyme Party House on State Road 67 in Pendleton, IN. Thrivent Financial's "Care in Regions" program contributed $5,000 of supplemental funding, so for every $3 raised, Thrivent added $1 up to $5,000.

The goal was to raise a mile of dollar bills for Myles. This was a family event featuring: a chili cook-off, a magician, remote controlled car races, a bake sale, a silent auction, food, quilts and more!

To find out more information about Myles and his condition, you may go to www.caringbridge.org, click on "Visit a Caring Bridge site" and then type in "MylesHubert."
