Why Play Matters!

There are too many children being deprived of one of their most important childhood rights of passage. This right has the ability to shape tomorrow’s leaders and provide children with the opportunity to grow up to be healthy, happy and successful adults. The right to help children explore, imagine, develop friendships, and embark on daily adventures is a child’s right to play.

Play has been proven to be a crucial factor in the overall well-being of children. Statistics revealed that children who play perform better academically, have a healthier self-esteem and develop the confidence and social skills to help them become happy, well-adjusted adults. In era that’s saturated with video games, satellite television and the infinite world of cyberspace, children’s lives are becoming more sedentary by the minute.

On July 23rd, Derrick Johnson of the Kansas City Chiefs joined together with Sister Berta and the kids from Operation Breakthrough, to design their new playground.
