Through the Care in Regions program, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provides funding for members of multiple chapters to come together, through community service teams, and work with their regional manager of Lutheran community services (MLCS) to address a significant regional need(s). The community service teams conduct fund-raising activities, appeals/collections and/or hands-on service activities that benefit individuals, families and not-for-profit organizations (including congregations) with significant needs. All activities are approved by the MLCS.For 2003, the focus of the Care in Regions was to support Lutheran Elementary Schools. For 2004, each chapter received an allocation of $1700 that could be used to support fundraisers that would benefit local first responders or volunteer fire departments. The focus was to help provide funding for defibrillators or other life saving equipment. As not all of the available money in this program was used, RFO 435 and many financial representatives partnered with "Jingle Bells", a telethon broadcast live on KSAX/ KRWF TV in December. Through that partnership, over $92,000 was raised, over 750 food baskets and toy baskets were filled and distributed to needy families in fourteen counties. |
