Members of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and others who volunteer with chapters within our Regional Financial Office deserve a pat on the back. Thanks to all of you for making a difference in your local community! |
| | 2007 Regional Volunteer Excellence Award |
|
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has a program to
recognize members of our organization who, through example and accomplishment,
provided outstanding volunteer service – especially with and through Thrivent
Financial – during the year and made a significant impact in their chapter,
community and congregation.
There are two types of award winners: regional and national.
¨
Regional winners
are members selected and nominated by the MLCS (Manager of Lutheran Community
Services), Ralph Yernberg, in that region.
The MLCS submits his region’s nominees to Thrivent Financial for
Lutherans for consideration for the national award.
¨
National winners
(one from each category listed below) are selected from the pool of nominees
submitted by each region and are recognized at a later date.
There are 4 categories:
1.
Youth/Young
Adults (up to age 25)
2.
Families with
Children (an individual, couple or an entire family who have children age 19
and under residing in the same household.
You may nominate the entire family if they volunteer together.)
3.
Adults (singles,
couples without children, empty nesters)
4.
Retired (retired
couple or individual)
We need your help to identify outstanding volunteers
in these four categories during the 2007 year so we can recognize them in
2008. As you learn of outstanding
volunteers, please notify your Lutheran Community Services Specialist who works
with your chapter (Karn Baker, Lance Neward, Christine Steele, Roberta Wentworth, or Nancy York)
so they can work with the MLCS.

Family With Chidren: Katherine Meyer |
Katherine Meyer
Codington County Chapter
South Shore, SD |
Katherine Meyer is our Families with Children Award Winner. Katherine lives in South Shore SD and is the Congregational Service Team Director for her local Codington County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Katherine has a passion for helping others and mobilizing youth in her community, from helping service teams with activities to engaging youth and adults in successful Join Hands Day activities. She is also active in her congregation participating in Ladies Aide, serving on Christmas and Lenten committees and acting as the confirmation coordinator. In her community she holds the position of secretary/treasurer for the South Shore Community Club, helps the Marine Corps, volunteers as a community coordinator for 60 plus dining, assists the local volunteer fire department, serves on the committee for the annual Independence Day event, organizes the Memorial Day service at the local cemetery, helps with the prom at the community high school and volunteers to help the band instructor. | |

Youth/Young Adult: Kelsey Campbell |
Kelsey Campbell, Brookings County Chapter, Madison,
SD |
Kelsey Campbell is our Youth/Young Adult Award Winner. Kelsey lives in Madison SD and attends SDSU in Brookings. She is currently involved in the music program at the university and is a member of two Christian music groups: Christian Praise Band and the Refuge. She shares her musical talent as she volunteers at her church, the local nursing homes, her Thrivent Chapter and at various community and youth events. | |

Retired Award Winner: Shirley Bradsby |
Shirley Bradsby, Lakewood CO, North Jeffco County Chapter |
Shirley Bradsby is our Retired Award Winner. Shirley lives in Lakewood CO and serves as President of her local North Jeffco County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Shirley brings high energy and a "can do spirit" to the chapter leadership board. She has been instrumental in the annual chapter volunteer recognition event, and with the communication and recruitment for the 2006 Thrivent Builds home in Kittredge CO as well as volunteering and hosting the Thrivent Builds Mobile last year on its stop in Colorado. In her community she is passionate about the Jeffco Action Center (an emergency service provider in Jefferson County CO). She is one of the coordinators for an annual fund-raiser that raises more than $300,000 in gifts and pledges for JAC each year. She has also led several Join Hands Day activities over the years at JAC. | | | Fraternal Financial Representative Recognition |
When
Thrivent Financial members put on their work gloves or surround a neighbor in
need with active compassion and fundraising, showing up doesn’t seem like an
option to our fraternal Financial Representatives of the year. They have the
tools, the resources, and the products to make a positive impact on both a
Lutheran’s personal financial future as well as on the communities and
ministries they love the most.
This
year the Rocky Mountain Region has chosen to recognize three individuals for
their fraternal support and encouragement.
They have been selected, not for any spectacular fraternal achievement,
but for their simple regular, ongoing, everyday contact and support of Thrivent
Financial for Lutherans members. They
connect with our fraternal leaders in meaningful ways.
In
2007, our Financial Representative Fraternal Award selections include the High
Plains Team, Jeff Frost and David Blaylock, serving five chapters in Eastern
Wyoming, and Erich Olson from Brookings, SD.
