Memorial Garden Dedicated
Charles County Chapter's JOIN HANDS DAY project inspired the La Plata, MD community to build a garden memorializing victims of tornados that devestated the area in 1926 and 2002.

When Charles County Chapter decided to support the garden project, the budget was a few thousand dollars and a lot of hands on landscaping. It soon became a large community project the involved government, local business and many volunteer hours.

The garden is located in the center of La Plata amid dozens of new office buildings, shops and restaurants which replaced those destroyed in 2002.
The garden was dedicated April 28, 2007 on the fifth anniversary of the 2002 tornado.

A bronze plaque on the garden wall notes Thrivent Financial's important role.
