--------------------------------- August 13, 2007Jim reported that the roof is on and shingled on the Thrivent Builds house in Red Wing. They are about 1 month behind, but the house is coming along well. Our goal was $5,000 and $3,900 was pledged, but $4,418.39 has been received already. | |

-------------------------------------- July 9, 2007Jim reported on Thrivent Builds Project that a new construction manager has now been hired. He is Wynn Von Bargen. Thrivent Builds has received $3,900 in pledges and $3,749.39 in actual monies from our Chapter members. Three houses will be going up this year with the one in Red Wing, and then Zumbrota and Kenyon. They should be starting construction in about 1 week, but they are a bit short on volunteer workers at this time. Family is Sarah O’Neil and son Hunter, who will be living in the completed home. | |

-------------------------------------- April 9, 2007Jim reported on Thrivent Builds progress. Groundbreaking is set for April 28th at 1 pm at 524 Webster Street in Red Wing. The partner family is Sarah O’Neil and her infant son, Hunter. He said only about 1/3 of the money needed has been pledged. The construction schedule needs volunteers and plans to start work at the site on May 19. They hope to be done the first week in October. A Spaghetti Supper for the Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity is planned for Monday, April 23 at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing from 4:30 - 7:00 pm. Adults $9; Children 12 and under $4. --------------------------------------What is Habitat for Humanity? -ecumenical Christian ministy seeking to eliminate poverty housing -families selected base on income level, ability pay morgage, wellingness to work for their home -use of volunteers and donations for building homes, zero interest morgages keep payments low What is Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity? -alliance to build additional Habitat homes across the county -local Habitat affiliate (GCHFH) has received a grant for one additional home -70% funded through Thrivent Financial, 20% through GCHFH, 10% through local Lutheran congregations -target for volunteers: 50% luthern,12.5% Thrivent members How can we be involved? -fundraising and volunteer recruitment -congregational level -identifyand support Congregational Champion to achieve this What does a Congregational Champion do? -coordinates congreagtional fundraising -recruits volunteers from congregation -reports progress and activities to Chapter Specialist Fundraising -special collection -letter to congregation -special event(s) -gifts-in-kind also count What does the Chapter Specialist do? -works with Congregational Coordinators to set fundraising goals -works with Congregational Coordinators to set volunteer goals -assists in fundraising efforts as needed -information source about project -resource contact -tracks and reports all activities / progress to Thrivent Building Schedule -start end of May -work days are Saturdays and one weekday evening ---determined by GCHFH Construction Coordinator -20-week schedule -302(and more)volunteer slots available -completion mid-October -address - 720 Washington St, Kenyon, MN (south of school) | |

------------------------------- October 17, 2006Goodhue Chapter has submitted application for next year’s Thrivent Builds - North Goodhue has gotten their application in also. Goodhue Chapter might be able to raise less dollars next year because land in Red Wing was donated and we have some funds to carry over. Thrivent Builds report by Helen. Jim had informed her that the dedication will not be until Nov. 12th or 19th. Fred will send out another notice regarding this to the congregations

-------------------------------------- July 18, 2006Thrivent Builds progress report by Jim: A business donated a new picnic table for the workers on the site to have lunch. The table will be left for the family to use when the building is completed. The building of the home is on schedule. Volunteer slots are filling up fast the next open slot is September 11th. In kind contributions for Goodhue County to date $7032.88, which is above what our share was set at, all is looking good.. Please feel free to call if you have questions. . -------------------------------------- June 20, 2006Thrivent Builds progress report by Jim: We were happy to hear that ground breaking was June 18th. The family chosen to have the house is Danild and Janice Dulnuan and four children from the Philippines. $5,182.88 cash has been received so far and volunteer slots are almost full for July and August. Hopefully dedication can be October 22nd. -------------------------------------- June 6, 2006 The Thrivent builds Homes project in Kenyon is coming together. Obert Musgjerd is the construction manager and Carol Lozon and Linda Cordes are the Thrivent Project Leaders. The Habitat for Humanity Family Selection is recommending a family to be approved by the Habitat board. This will be done by email the next few days. Pending final approval there will be a ground breaking ceremony on 2PM Sunday June 18 at 720 Washington St. in Kenyon. Thrivent congregations are welcome to attend. We have been able to meet the goal that Thrivent had in regards to money pledged and volunteers, Thanks to those congregations that have already sent in the donations and chosen their slots, Volunteer slots are filling up. The construction manager is ready to go, with ground breaking to hopefully be first part of June. They are still looking for a family to meet the requirements for the house. | |
