About Our Chapter
Thank you for visiting our chapter Web site. Here’s a few things you should know about our chapter.

Our chapter is one of nearly 1,400 nationwide chartered local units of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans that brings Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members together for charitable, social and educational activities. Chapters are organized geographically, primarily by county. All Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members belong to a chapter in the area in which they live, which enables them to aid themselves and others through voluntary action.

Each chapter has a leadership board made up of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members who are elected and/or appointed. The chapter leadership board is responsible for allocating funds to service teams for helping individuals and community organizations.

For questions about our chapter or to get involved in our volunteer activities, contact a chapter leader by clicking "Meet our Chapter Leaders" below.

Chapter Scope
Our chapter includes twenty congregations in Ft. Bend/Wharton Counties, one of the fastest growing areas in the USA. We have a membership very close to 3000 Thrivent Financial members living in the Chapter. We have churches from WELS, LCMS, ELCA and independent Lutheran expressions. We live in rural, small town and suburban environments. We help where needed to assure Thrivent Financial's Care in Congregations™ Program funding is used each year. The Chapter administers Care Abounds in Communities™ Program funds and assists efforts and access to the Care in Regions™ Program.

Members that reside in Ft. Bend and Wharton County are members of 97 different Lutheran churches in at least six neighboring chapters. We work with churches and congregational coordinators to help with awareness of other Thrivent Financial support including GivingPlus™, Habitat for Humanity, Disaster Response, Baptismal and Confirmation Recognitions.

The chapter participated in 22 Care Abounds in Communities® or Join Hands Day projects in 2005, including generating over $40,000 in support to upgrade the chapel at OakBend Medical Center, repairs to a home and a $5,000 grant to support a home being built by the East Wharton County HFHI affiliate.
They also volunteered 23,936 hours in 2005, an incredible amount, said Dave Kuhlmann with the Thrivent for Lutherans organization. He also noted the quilting group at Peace Lutheran that quilted over 100 quilts for those in need and Resurrection Lutheran, a 10-week summer program for youngsters.
The 2006 leadership board is comprised of Ray Lehrmann, Jerry Lohr, Betty Coates, Dave Willis, Sharon Voldan, Donna Janik, Chuck Whitacre, Bob Jahn, Gregg Dimmick, Ann Schaer, Ben Powell and Suzanne Kocurek.
