South Pinellas County Chapter and Thrivent Builds

Welcome to our Thrivent Builds Pages! This site is designed to keep you up-to-date on our current Thrivent Builds and Habitat for Humanity house as well as an archive for previously built homes. We hope you enjoy seeing your Thrivent Chapter at work.

We're are finished...

The Dimario McKenzie Family -
Pictured in father, Dimario's arms is Nazeer
standing from the left are Dimario, Jr, Cenaria, and Ke'Marion

We give thanks to the Lord for this family and the opportunity we've had in helping them build a new home through Thrivent Builds. We wish them all the best, especially as they celebrate their first Christmas in their new home.

Fund Raising Committment - Thrivent Builds

If it only took hammers and nails, Habitat for Humanity's needs would be few. However, it takes much more to provide affordable housing for our community. On average, materials, skilled labor and land costs exceeds $100,000 per house. Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County does not receive direct financial support from Habitat for Humanity International in Americus, GA. Financial support is critical to continue to provide affordable housing for more families in Pinellas County. In order to build this house for the McKenzie family, South Pinellas County is committed to raising approximately 10% of the building costs.

  • $59 will pay for 1 sq.ft.
  • $118 will pay for 2 sq.ft.
  • $177 will pay for 3 sq.ft.
  • $236 will pay for 4 sq.ft.

I apologize for not getting the pictures up on this site during the building of this house. There were many factors involved and I will try to get the photos I have up as soon as I can.

    We're finally on our way!

The foundation has been poured, but the exterior walls aren't up, yet, so today we did all the interior wall framing at the Habitat for Humanity warehouse in Clearwater. Many hands made quick work and we were done early. Thank you to the "Thrivent Ladies" from Hope Lutheran Church for providing a great lunch. Now lets get going!

    This must be the place...

    Our plans...

    Sawing and marking lumber...

Loading aprons with nails to get started...

    Assembling wall frames...

    Now that's teamwork...

These walls are literally covered in prayer...

A sample of prayer in these walls...

    Ah, lunch...

Wall frames loaded on the truck for transport to the home site...

A hot, sweaty, tired, but happy crew... a job well done...

The day started with the Wall Raising Ceremony, sorry, didn't get pictures, followed by a full work day. Most of the interior wall frames went in and the trusses went up.

Sweeping water off the foundation before the Wall Raising Ceremony.

Since we built the wall frames at the warehouse, we had to get them over the exterior wall to get them into place

Today's tasks included blocking the trusses and securing the straps and beginning to put the plywood on the roof. The interior wall frames are all in and secured.

Some of us came out on Wednesday, 8/2 to secure the interior wall frames to the foundation
