Thrivent Financial for Lutherans honored Joan by naming her for the national Volunteer of Excellence Award, recognizing her as the top adult volunteer among Thrivent Financial's nearly 3 million members.
This is the organization's highest community service award.
Joan has been a member of St. Matthew's Church since 1948.
She has, and continues to serve her congregation in myriad ways, including: Board of Directors; School Board, serving as Chairperson more than twenty-five years; interim principal of the Christian Day School; Sunday School Teacher; Choir.
She was actively involved in both Aid Association for Lutherans and Lutheran Brotherhood where she held numerous offices including serving as treasurer and president respectively for many years.
Currently she is serving as President of the Miami-Dade Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
A graduate of Florida State University, Joan has a Batchelor of Arts degree in foreign languages and a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science.
After a fulfilling teaching career, she owns and operates a wonderful needle arts and gift boutique, "The Giving Tree," in Coral Gables.
Joan serves her community as a member of the Coral Gables Community Foundation, the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Coral Gables, The Junior Orange Bowl Committee, the Educational Excellence Advisory Committees of Coral Gables High School and Glades Middle School, the Leadership Development Group of Gulliver Schools, and the Advisory Board of Actors' Playhouse.

Dr. Boudon is pastor of St. James Lutheran in Coral Gables and was born in Olean, NY, and grew up in nearby Port Allegany, PA. He married Laura Elizabeth Besseyre on June 25, 1994, in Nice, France. They have an adopted son, Lucas Alfredo, born in Guatemala City on July 9, 2006. He graduated from the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, SC, with a Masters of Divinity in May, 2009 and holds a PhD in International Studies from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL, a Masters degree in Government from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Spanish from the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY.

Erwin worships at Christ The King Lutheran church. Originally from the Pittsburgh, PA area, he moved to Miami after serving in the Army. He is married to Sandra who recently retired from Miami-Dade County Schools as a first-grade teacher. He is a retired software developer, first with Eastern Airlines and finally with EDS corporation. He volunteers as web master for both St. James Lutheran in Coral Gables and St. Paul Lutheran in Miami.

Harold is a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. He first moved to Miami from the Boston, Mass. area in 1948 and served in the Navy during the Korean War. He is retired now but was a successful dry cleaner in the Miami area for many years. He is married to Arlene and has three grown children. His son, Keith, is a Thrivent representative.

Mary Weibel
Mary Weibel, Manager of Lutheran Community Services, manages and directs Thrivent Financial for Lutherans fraternal programs for the State of Florida. Mary has been with Thrivent for 19 years. She has worked in the Appleton home office managing national volunteer programs and as a financial associate in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She left the organization to attend graduate school at the University of Michigan. After graduating with her Master of Social Work degree and working in nonprofit management, she returned to the organization in 1997 as Director of Fraternal in the East division. This position brought Mary to Florida.
Mary is deeply involved in all Care in Regions and many other Thrivent care programs throughout the state, lending her support and expertise - and, when possible, her participation in the many activities of our volunteers. She has been an inspiring force behind Miami-Dade Chapter's "Click for a Cure" project.
Mary and her husband Jon, who also serves the Florida RFO as Recruiter, divide their time between Orlando and their home in Naples.
