The Georgia-South Carolina-North Carolina region of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans totaled its volunteer hours and funds for 2005, with impressive results. The Athens Chapter is proud to be part of this active region. In the Care in Congregations program, which allocates $1,300 to each congregation, congregational coordinators reported these results:
Through benevolent programs, fund raisers and help projects primarily devoted to congregational needs, volunteers dedicated 198,414 hours.
A total of 27,023 Thrivent members participated.
Thrivent granted $785,133 in supplemental funds.
Chapters raised $1,670,035 for benevolent projects.
In the Care Abounds in Communities program, which allocates funds to the chapter Board of Directors based on membership numbers, the numbers add up:
Chapters reported 330,000 volunteer hours.
Thrivent contributed $867,684 in supplemental funds for projects.
The chapters raised $1,858,233 to help individuals, organizations and groups in the community.
The chapters in our region completed 2,297 projects.
Last year was marked with natural disasters and Thrivent members responded generously:
Thrivent supplemented members financial gifts with $1.5 million
Thrivent supplemented chapter fund raisers with $500,000
Thrivent Builds program dedicated $5 million to Habitat for Humanity projects in the Gulf Coast.
Thrivent members contributed $10 million for disaster relief.
Lutheran Services in America, which incorporates Lutheran agencies nationwide, provides more aid nationally than the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and United Way combined. One of every 50 Americans is helped each year by Lutheran agencies.
