Through the Care in Congregations® chapter Care program, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provides funding for Thrivent Financial members to conduct fund-raising activities and/or hands-on service activities to benefit a congregation or its related Lutheran institution(s), including schools. Members are encouraged to help the congregation in its ministry to the community. Funding comes directly from Thrivent Financial to the congregational service team's congregation. In order for a congregation to access these funds, however, there must be three Congregational Coordinators in place. These are three Thrivent volunteers (Benefit or Associate) within the congregation who help the congregation decide where the money might be used, make sure all of the criteria are met, and submit the necessary application to Thrivent.
In the Hudson Valley NY Chapter, there are only two congregation that do not meet this requirement. It is the goal of our Congregational Service Team Director, Jim Steipp, to have the necessary Congregational Coordinators in place for these congregations before the end of 2009 so that ALL of the congregation in our chapter can access the Care funds that are available to them.
If you need more information about how to do so, please contact Jim Steipp at jsteipp@hvc.rr.com.
