While Brigham Young was doing his missionary service in the British Isles, his wife purchased the present building site. "When I returned from England," Brigham wrote,"my family was living in a small unfurnished log-cabin, situated on a low, wet lot, so swampy that when the first attempt was made to plow it the oxen mired."The present brick home was built in 1843 with the wings added in 1844. | |
