Special Events

Fun , , , Family , , , Friends

That's a winning combination and it's offered at Lord of Life:

Wednesday Night LOL Family Night (WNFN!)

If you haven't tried it, it's about time you did! We have a Simple Supper prepared by one or two families at 6:00 p.m. It's like one big Happy Family!

Supper is followed by 15 - 30 minutes of devotions and songs led by one of our members. After that we have had a vast array of different activities.

Coming up this fall, if there is sufficient interest, a class in Tai Chi will be offered, and there will also be a craft class for interested youngsters. Currently we have about four families with children, half a dozen or more couples, and several singles attending,

We all make up the LOL Family, and it is a very warm, friendly, and supportive group! Try to fit one Wednesday evening in your schedule soon!

If you have any questions - or suggestions, contact any member of the WNFN task force: Linda Hash, Paula Pickler, or Brad Hunnicutt.

October Events

Yard Sale is Coming to a Church Near You Soon!!

The Social Concerns Ministry Committee is sponsoring a YARD SALE on October 5, so start gathering your valuables, your not-so-valuables and your downright unvaluables to donate. Remember, there’s always someone, somewhere who wants -- nay, needs -- what you no longer have use for (if you ever did!).

Volunteers to assist with the sale will be greatly appreciated.

And, taken from a church bulletin blooper reminding another congregation about a similar upcoming event: To the ladies, don't forget this yard sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Don't forget your husbands. [internet]

September Events

Raleigh Rescue Mission

For September, we are once again asking you to open your hearts to provide much needed items for the Raleigh Rescue Mission. Last year’s we collected a double car load of “stuff” and the folks at the Mission were thrilled! Watch the Social Concerns Ministry table and easel in the narthex for details of what the Mission needs -- and be generous!

And, as always, if you want to make donations and just don’t have time to shop, the committee members will be your “personal shoppers”. Just let us know: Connie Fortmeyer, Paula Pickler, Gail Slade, Jeannie Stang.

August Events!

August 2 - Vacation Bible School (VBS) Kickoff cookout is on Friday beginning at 6:00 and lasting until 8:00 pm. If you plan to attend, please bring a sidedish or dessert to share. There will be music, games, and fun for the whole family!

August 3 - Vacation Bible School starts on Saturday, Aug 3 at 9:00 a.m. and lasts until 2:00 p.m. We will learn the stories behind different people in the Bible from A to Z, by relating to them through crafts, music, indoor and outdoor games, snacks, lunch, service project, banner, and more. Closing ceremonies, with songs, recognitions and certificates will be held on Sunday, August 4 at 9:00 a.m. during the Gathering.

  • Registration: Please sign up on the list, next to the fellowship hall, with your name, age, grade in school this fall, etc. We want to be sure we have enough food and supplies!
  • Invite: Your friends, family, and neighbors! Please let us know, through registration, how many will be coming so we will be able to prepare for everyone!
  • Important: Each child and youth helper needs to bring a washed (without fabric softener) white or light-colored cotton t-shirt for activity, and we will wear them for the closing ceremony on Sunday.
  • Service Project: We are asking every child to bring a donation of a cleaning supply or toiletry item from the Montagnard needs list during one of the stations on Saturday for a service project.
  • Youth and Adult Helpers: If you are interested in helping with VBS, please let Tina Kestener or Linda Hash knows ASAP and sign in on the list near the Fellowship Hall. We are planning stations now and welcome any willing volunteers.

We want to have a great VBS this year!! You can help make it happen!

August 9 - the Lutheran Church Men sponsor a visit to Five-Star Stadium for a Mudcats baseball game. The cost is approximately $5.00 and a sign-up sheet can be found in the Fellowship hall.

August 11 - A Happenin'!!! is coming to Lord of Life. After church, about 11:30 a.m. Come dressed down for The Happenin' because we're having an old-fashioned family event, including a DUNKIN' BOOTH!! Dunkees will be announced that day - and Dunkers can get one chance for a minimum of $1.00 . . . but we may ask for more if the Dunkee is especially dunkable. In addition, there will be:

  • A karaoke
  • Several carnival games (with prizes)
  • A putting green
  • Strolling troubadours
  • Free ice cream cones
  • AND MORE!!

Plan to take part . . . and we promise you WILL have fun!

July Events

Christmas in July

Want to play Santa early again this year? Our focus for July is on equipping some children with supplies to start back to school. Without our help, these youngsters won't have what their classmates have -- and we all know that isn't a pleasant way to start a new year.

Mary Cook has once again taken the time to locate two families for us to help. We know both families: one family we helped last July and the other family is the one we assisted this past Christmas. The kids' folks are hardworking but just don't have enough to get some needed items.

The little Christmas tree in the narthex is decorated with "ornaments" with school needs on them. Take one, or several, and leave your gifts (unwrapped) on or under the table.

Let's all make sure that no child has to do without. Let's make sure that these children realize that they are special, they are loved and that they do matter.
