Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
One of the popular TV programs is “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” There are other ways to get there without appearing on the show.
If tobacco costs you $4 per day, your monthly costs are $120. If you invest this $120 per month into a mutual fund with a 12% return, after 40 years, you, as a former tobacco user, would have $1,175,160 for your retirement!
Three months of no tobacco use would make $360, four months would be $480. Wouldn’t that be a wonderful investment in a mission organization? Five years with no tobacco would yield about the price of a new car.
Letter from Missionaries Dinesh & Rachel Chand (Himachal Pradesh, India)
September, 2001
Dear Friends and Family
We want to start by greeting you in the precious name of Jesus. We trust you are doing well. We have been fine here and anticipating the birth of our next child due in mid-September [which they did have]. It is amazing to us how fast Aaron has grown up and that he is already 2 1/2 years now. He has brought so much joy and laughter into our home. He has begun to understand that the baby is in Rachel’s tummy and we feel he will enjoy being a big brother.
As the ministry continues to grow we are blessed to see a great networking spirit among our church planters. Currently, we have 12 families working full-time and six others working part-time.We have established six churches in four of the 12 districts in Himachal. Each place has very different strongholds and as we team up together to help each other, we have seen the Lord work to free many people from the oppression in Hinduism.
In July we hosted our very first Medical Outreach with a medical team from Florida. We set up five different camps in villages throughout Himachal. We praise God for His favor and His hand in every camp. Throughout the week a total of about 1,100 people were examined. Each patient was given nutritional supplements as well as many vitamins; antibiotics and other medicines were given out as needed. Not only were we able to examine so many people but each person also had the opportunity to hear the Gospel message and get prayed for. A total of 75 people came to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. We feel we are beginning to see the fruit of many years of prayer, especially in a small village near my hometown called Dhaun where 80 people were examined and 43 people accepted the Lord. When I received a vision to return to Himachal, it was this village the Lord showed me in my vision. i was blessed in my heart to see so many giving their hearts to the Lord.
We praise God that we were able to send four people to Bible school in Bangalore. All of these people have come from a Hindu background and have seen the Lord do wonders in their lives. We are excited to them receive further training and preparation for the full-time ministry. Each of them has a vision for the full-time ministry and we look forward to see God use them to bring many Himachalies to the Lord.
In the past few months we have seen the Lord answer our prayers in areas that we have been praying for people to come to know Jesus and fellowships to start. In a village called Baddi, where brothers David and Bir Masih are working, last month we have started a fellowship with only two believers, but now the number has already grown to 10. This month we were able to purchase two bicycles for David and Bir Masih, which have helped them tremendously to travel into many village areas and share the Gospel.
In Kumarhatti where brother Vikram is working, every week people are being delivered from the clutches of the demons and coming to know Jesus as their Savior. Currently we have a fellowship of about 12 people and will be starting another fellowship in a nearby place called Dhagsai soon.
In Solan, where brothers Gopal and Kirpaul are working, we started a fellowship last month and already four people are attending. Although these numbers may seem small, we are encouraged when even one Hindu comes to know the truth. Himachal is the least evangelized state of India and many believe it is the hardest Hindu state to reach. We are blessed to see the Lord doing so many miracles as the people of Himachal open their hearts to hear about Jesus.
In May, I went to Karsog to dedicate the church hall that we were able to furnish for the fellowship, and in memory of Naresh Kumar that died last year of caner. We want to thank each of you that have given toward this need. Until now this fellowship of 15 has not had enough places to worship. After the service we baptized three people in a nearby river, which I believe was a wonderful start for this fellowship in their new hall. This month we purchased a motor scooter for the Karsog ministry and are very thankful to the Lord for providing the finances needed to do this. It is a true blessing for the brothers in Karsog.
In October we will be hosting for the first time a ladies’ retreat for three days with the joint efforts of another ministry. I feel ministry among women has been ignored in India for a long time and we are anticipating that the Lord will do great things in this meeting. Please pray that we would see some breakthroughs among the many ladies that will come to be encouraged an taught.
Each month we continue to have a time of reflection and ongoing training in Shimla with our leaders and potential workers. We usually host this in our home for a minimum of two days where we worship and share together in the fellowship of the Lord. Recently, as our team has grown, we are finding it difficult to host these meetings in our home because we are limited with space. Thus we have began to host these meetings in a nearby hotel. We praise the Lord for providing all the money needed to purchase a piece of land in Shimla. Now we are looking ahead to see our ministry base established and to build a large enough facility for training. Constructing a retaining wall and leveling the ground must be done first before we can start the building construction. We need at least $7000 for this first step in building the ministry base. Please pray with us that the funds will be provided soon for this first step of developing the land.
As our ministry in Himachal has grown we need at least $900 a month to support these missionaries and an additional $800 for other ministry expenses. We have been praying for our regular support to grow to at least $2000 a month and we are only $725 short of reaching our target. If you would like to be a faith partner with us to help us meet this need, it would be a great blessing.
From March to August 2002, we are planning another trip to the US. We hope to be able to connect with each and every one of you.
Thank you again for all the support, prayers and love you have toward us and our ministry here. We appreciate so much to have partners standing with us as we together reach the lost in Himachal Pradesh. if you would like to help with any of the areas mentioned in this letter or if you would like to become a faith partner with us, please send your tax-deductible gifts to Christian Aid.
Blessings & Love
