SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY
NOTES ABOUT PEOPLE OF FAITH: Congratulations to Melonie Christopher and Hannah Klemp for being selected to the FFA Sweetheart court. Congratulations to Melonie for being selected as the FFA Sweetheart Queen. Congratulations to those making superior honor roll from our church at KVHS. They are Stephen Mezzacapo, Jessie Klemp, Morgan Bell, Lexie Eggert, Hannah Klemp, and Beau Sarosy. Kudos to those from our church making regular honor roll. Those are Brett Walther, Melonie Christopher, Jacob Weaver, Sarah Axtell, and Cody Sekema. Making High Honor Roll at DeMotte Christian was Nick Arnold. We have Alex Krsak & Elizabeth Rose celebrating their baptismal birthdays today. Congratulations everyone! John Christopher is recovering at home from recent surgery.
NEW MEMBER BULLETIN BOARD: Not sure who are new members are or what are their names? Never fear, a bulletin board featuring pictures and names of the newest members is now posted in the narthex for the refreshing of your memory!
WANT TO HELP YOUR CHURCH GROW? One way to help your church grow is to volunteer to become a mentor to new members. The process of mentoring needs to start during the new member's seeking phase. It would require that you attend instruction classes with them when you can, attend the same service they do, and make sure you give them a friendly welcome every Sunday you see them. You would do your best to see that they meet other people and that the church is meeting their needs. You would become their advocate. Growing a church is never easy. If you could volunteer your time to do this, please submit your name to the pastor. We have new members taking instruction now, that could use some mentors.
NEW LECTOR POLICY: Beginning in April of this year, people who wish to be lectors must attend a short seminar to be instructed in microphone management and proper reading technique. Those who can't make the scheduled seminar, and wish to read, will need to request a private instruction with Pastor Raebel. Lectors will be asked in which service they wish to read, and how often a month, at the most, they would like to read. No one will be assigned to read unless they have attended the seminar or been privately instructed by the pastor. The date of the seminar will probably take place in March. Stay tuned to the newsletter for more details. If you wish to be scheduled to read after March this year, please sign up now on the narthex bulletin board.
YOUTH SERVICE PROJECT: Parents of youth members, information on our servant event at Opportunity Enterprises in Valparaiso is available in your boxes. Please read through that information as it is too lengthy to post in the newsletter. We need to know if you are attending and how many from your family so adequate food can be prepared. We also need to know if you would be willing to drive so adequate transportation can be provided. A sign up sheet is posted on the narthex bulletin board for this purpose. Please support the event by encouraging your youth to attend it. I am sure they will find it a rewarding experience.
WORDS OF WISDOM: "A church grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in."
FINANCIAL NEWS: After last month's debt reduction offering our present debt balance to our Endowment Fund is now at $9,407.51. Money for the carpet fund stands at $260.00. The balance of our Endowment Fund including our debt owed to it is $55,672.69. Since the balance is now over $50,000.00, interest from the fund will now be distributed quarterly to support youth, music, preschool, or special needs ministry, or scholarships for church workers. The council would like the congregation to be aware of this endowment fund and encourage members to give to the fund. The higher the principle, the higher the interest return we receive to support our ministry outreaches.
LOCK CHANGE: After 16 years in the building, the council approved the changing of the locks on all doors. If you have a key and wish to retain entry into the building, please turn in your old key for a new one. Thank you for your cooperation.
LENT AROUND THE CORNER: Ash Wednesday is February 22, 2012. With that service, we start our six week lenten service preparing our hearts to celebrate the most important event for our faith, our Lord's resurrection. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Plan now to attend. This year's theme is "Christ in the Strangest Places."
