| REMEMBERING the GENERAL SLOCUM |

|
On June 15, 1904, the largest tragedy to befall Lutherans in the USA occurred when the steamboat General Slocum caught fire and sank in New York's East River. With over 1,000 people killed, it ranks among the heaviest casualty disasters in American history and remains the largest "Lutheran disaster" ever recorded. As the 100th anniversary of this sad event came and went, memorials were held in New York on June 12-13, 2004, and it was recognized by J. Sims in a period impression of Pastor George Haas at the LDR biennium in AZ June 23-27, 2004. For detailed information about both the history, please link to the site below. | | |
