Disaster Response and Assistance Groups (DRAG Teams) |
LDR/TN is seeking congregations who might be interested in forming early response and long term recovery teams to help as volunteers in disaster areas (9-01-05 principally in response to Hurricane Katrina damage in GA-AL-MS-LA). Early response teams normally are involved in debris removal and temporary roof repairs for the most part; chainsaw work is often dominant. Long term recovery teams require a variety of skill levels including carpentry, electrical work, and plumbing, but general laborers are also always needed...women and older youth are welcome. If your congregation has an interest in forming a DRAG team, please contact Pastor Freitag. As of June 2005, LDR/TN had a youth DRAG Team at Trinity (LCMS), Columbia and, as of July 10, a team emerged at Trinity (ELCA), Hixson, and spent a week in Bayou La Batre helping rebuild a home damaged from Hurricane Katrina (see photos below). If you are an individual who is interested in the possibility of this service, but there are not others in your congregation who want to form a team, you can sign up for the "All TN DRAG" team. It will be made of up various people, aligned with congregational teams unable to mobilize as a group and other volunteers unaligned with any group from a congregation; non-Lutherans are welcome. Please contact Pastor Freitag if you are individually available for service. | | |
