The Amercian Red Cross/FEMA have recently published a bookelt entitled "Preparing for Disaster" FEMA #475, ARC#A4600, that presents guidelines for putting together emergency supplies kits for the home and automobiles. It can individually be ordered by calling 1/800/480-2520. EVERY family/individual should prepare for disaster by assembling emergency kits both for the home and for every automobile. | |

Emergency supplies kits are available from the ARC already equipped with many basic items. The automobile kit costs $17; the standard kit costs $28. Both are available at local ARC Chapters. | |

Vehicle Emergency Supplies List (not all-inclusive): |
|
1) First aid kit and basic manual 2) Flashlight with extra batteries 3) White distress flag and/or warning triangle 4) Tire repair kit, booster/jumper cables, pump, flare 5) Bottled water and non-perishable food 6) Seasonal supplies: Winter-blanket, warm clothing, shovel, sand, tire chains, windshield scraper. Summer-sunscreen (SPF15 or greater), shade item, sun glasses 7) Pair of work gloves 8) Poncho/umbrella 9) Basic hygiene kit 10)Multi-blade utility knife 11) Duct tape 12) Special items to meet short term needs of children, the elderly or handicapped, and/or pets (including one day's dose of prescribed pharmeceuticals) | | |
