St. Peter's Lutheran Evangelical Church, St. Peter, IL

The old church building constructed in 1894 stood on the south side of Highway 185 where Pastor's garden now stands.	St. Peter's Lutheran Church was organized on January 8, 1869, as the gathering place where the community came together to hear the Gospel, Good News of Jesus Christ. Twenty-six persons were charter members. The early services were conducted in the Rauchman School about three miles northeast of St. Peter. Services were also conducted in the Jacob Jahraus home about three and one-half miles southwest of St. Peter. After Mr. Samuel Fogler of Old Loogootee donated ten acres of land to the group, a building that served as church, school, and parsonage was planned and completed in 1872. This structure served the congregation until 1894 when a new church was built on the south side of the road. The first church was remodeled in 1922 and became a three-room Christian Day School.
On May 28, 1950, our present church was dedicated.
