Demonstraton for Peace at Luke Air Force Base, August 6, the 60th Anniversary of the Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima.Pastor John (the clown) and Pastor Kim led a demonstration for peace and disarmament at the main entrance to Luke Air Force Base, August 6, 2005, the 60th Anniversary of the Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima. There were women from Code Pink and Code Black that joined them at the demonstration along with others concerned about peace, disarmament and ending the war in Iraq.
Pastor John led a service for peace and then was arrested for blocking the entrance to the Base. He was held on the base, released to the Glendale Police, and appeared in the Glendale Court. He was fined $350 and told by the judge if he does it again he will serve time in jail.
Thanks to those who donated funds to help Pastor John pay the fine.
Pastors John and Kim returned to Luke Air Force Base, on Monday, August 29, to again demonstrated for peace. This was the day President Bush arrived at Luke. John and Kim then joined the large demonstration for peace at El Mirage, where President Bush spoke.
Pastor John and Pastor Kim feel that war can never be consistent with the teachings of Jesus Christ. We who claim to follow Jesus fool ourselves if we believe it can.
"War is now, always has been, and always will be bad, bad news. I was there. I saw war. Those who have seen war will bear me out. I assure you, it is not of Christ. It is not Christ's way. There is no way to conduct war in conformity with the teachings of Jesus. There is no way to train people for real war in conformity with the teachings of Jesus."
