There are churches of every description scattered across our land. Some are great structures, soaring toward the sky, and many are large, and well-equipped buildings with impressive programs and large staffs. But many are small and seem almost insignificant. Some of the most beloved are not cathedrals or mega-churches, but little ones, just like congregation of Community Lutheran Church (CLC)! Many people who have long since moved far away ask to retain their membership, and often will come back home to Hill City to be married at, baptize their children at, or to be buried from Community Lutheran Church.
Why does this happen? Because the congregation at CLC knows that a church is more than a building. It is the people that make a congregation.. The building is just the place where we gather, where the word of God is preached, and where we join with others to do the work of the Lord. We share our joys and sorrows; we forgive and are forgiven. We join in the celebration of Holy Communion, and feel the Lord's presence with us. We become a community where we are known and loved.
It has been said that home is where the heart is. Our building is dear to us because it is the "home" where our church family gathers. However, since it is our people who are the church, we thank God for each of them and, thus, for Community Lutheran Church - our spiritual home!
