Youth Happenings at Ascension! Wow, November already! What happened to 2011! By this reading the youth will have participated in Reformation Sunday, a youth-assisted service. It is always a joy to see the kids actively engaged in worship! We are going to try something a little different this fall. We’re going to have a lunch-included youth meeting this month. On Nov 20th at noon, all the youth are invited, really encouraged to come hang out, have lunch, talk, plan, just spend some time together. A “youth-fellowship” time. We will begin more precise discussions about the ELCA Gathering but it is definitely good for those that aren’t eligible yet to hear some of that discussion. AND the Gathering will NOT be the only topic of discussion. All youth from 6th grade through 12th grade are invited and encouraged to come. Please let me know if you (or your youth) will be attending so I can plan for enough food for lunch. If this concept seems to fit everyone’s busy schedule then we will proceed with monthly meetings for all youth. And we will schedule meetings separately for Gathering travelers later in the school year. Please mark your calendars for the Annual Christmas Campfire. All the kids at Ascension are invited to this event. The real little folks are asked to bring a parent or grown up but everyone is invited. It will be on Dec. 2nd from 6:30 until about 8:30 or so. Come enjoy a campfire, s’mores, a story, maybe a song or two. Just as 2011 sped by, the school year will speed by too and we will be heading to New Orleans before we know it. We have lots to do to prepare for the journey. We will study the history of New Orleans, we’ll discuss our mission while there. We’ll even discuss how to budget our food allowance and how to plan for all the expenses we will incur during our travels. So fundraising will become more focused in the coming months. We are continuing to collect aluminum cans and newspapers as fundraising activities. We are also finalizing the wreath sale. Please watch for news of our preparations for the Gathering and how YOU can support the Youth of Ascension. Prayers for all our young people are always welcome and needed!
