PASTORAL CARE REFERRALSIf you had a stay in the hospital, someone from the chaplain's department may have visited you. You may have even received a visit from one of Atonement's pastors or parish nurses. We want to visit you when you're in the hospital to let you know we care and to share a moment of prayer with you.
Due to privacy laws, however, we may not be told what is going on nor even find out that you are in the hospital. Hospitals no longer keep lists of their patients' church affiliations nor do they automatically notify churches when a member is admitted. If you or a family member is in the hospital and you want Atonement's pastoral staff to be aware of the situation, someone who has your permission must notify the parish nurses at (314) 837-1090. If you know of an upcoming admission or out-patient surgery and you have the permission of the patient, call the parish nurses. If you wish to notify the pastoral staff on a Saturday or a Sunday, please write the information on a note (be sure to include your name) and hand the note to one of the pastors. (Sundays are really busy for pastors, so a quick verbal request to the pastor at the door may be forgotten among the countless details to which pastors attend on weekends.) After hours during the week, on weekends, or on holidays, when the church office is closed, you may call (314) 971-4673 to notify a pastor.
If you notice that someone who attends regularly is missing from services, either call that person yourself or let the staff at Atonement know so they can check on that person. We need your help in identifying the needs of our members. This is a large church so it is difficult for the pastoral staff to keep up with each member's attendance. Please help us help you. We do want to be there for you!
Call Pastor Vargo at (314) 837-1224, or Kris Thompson, R.N., or Nicki Reynolds, R.N., in the parish nurse office at (314) 837-1090 for more information.
In His Service,
Nicki Reynolds, R.N.
