Mike Varn

Pastor Mike is a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College and the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina. He received his Doctor of Ministry from McCormick Seminary in Chicago. He came to Holy Comforter from the Isle of Palms, SC, in 1979. He is a former Dean fo the Southwest Conference of the North Carolina Synod, has been president of many community and ecumenical organizations, and has served on regional and Synodical boards. He is the "convener" for Holy Comforter's confirmation camping program(Campfirmation), in cooperation with 10 other Lutheran churches from North and South Carolina. His wife, Dr. Lynn Varn, teaches at Belmont Abbey College. They have two daughters, Meredith and Lydia. He enjoys making stained glass windows and white water rafting | | |

Susie Roberts

Susie came to Holy Comforter in April of 1979, only a few months after Pastor Mike. She has seen the office grow from a typewriter and memeograph to a full-scale modern office, complete with fax line, multiple phone lines, and high-speed internet activities on 4 computers. Due to the growth and increased activities at Holy Comforter over the years, she's also seen her 3-hour a day job grow to nearly full time. Susie and her husband Everett are the proud parents of Andrea and her husband Gene, and are even prouder of their grand-daughter Layne who live in Wilmington, NC. | |

Greg Cline
Organist/Choirmaster |
Greg is a lifetime resident of Belmont and a Graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College. He has been the Organist/Choirmaster of Holy Comforter since 1982, and has on several occasions been the selected accompanist at North Carolina Synodical events. He has composed and directed several dramas, and over the years has organized a strings program, a brass ensemble, and a continuous handbell choir. His vocal choirs include the Sunshine Kids Choir, the New Song Choir, and the Adult Choir, which have performed a range of music from the contemporary to the cantata. | |
