Our History |
Immanuel Lutheran Church founded in 1896, and affiliated with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, was first located in Germantown; an area later incorporated into the city of Danville. For a number of years, the congregation was known as the German Church because services were held in German. Later both English and German were offered until the German was dropped altogether in the 1940's. For the 100+ years of her existence, the congregation has supported and eight-grade parochial school. When Immanuel and Trinity Lutheran combined their two schools, the new school became known as Danville Lutheran School and operates on two campuses, and now includes a pre-school and Kindergarten. Twelve pastors have over the years served Immanuel, a number of them serving together. The first pastor, Ernest Berthold, whose pastorate was the longest, served the congregation continuously from 1896 to 1952.To this day Immanuel honors her traditions in her worship and, at the same time, had demonstrated an openness to non-traditional forms and sounds. Her present Pastor, Daniel Fienen, has served since January, 2000. The Gospel he proclaims is the same Gospel that the founding members heard back in 1896. | |
