We are sometimes in desolate places in our lives. Peter's mother-in-law was in the desolate place of illness, Jesus went to a desolate place to pray, we have desolate places in our lives. But Jesus is there to comfort and to heal.

Leprosy was in some ways the AIDS of the ancient world - it was a horrible death sentence. People reacted with fear and disgust. Yet God, first through His prophet and latter in Jesus reached out to lepers and healed them. What will He do with our sin?

Sermon: “Enter Jesus” – Text: 2 Kings 2:1-12
Theme: The OT Lesson relates the "handing over" of prophetic power and duties from Elijah (who appears at the Transfiguration) to Elisha. One aspect of the Transfiguation is that all the Old Testament is fulfilled in Jesus who continues in God's power to save.

Abraham was severely tested, told to sacrifice his own son. It was a test, and with God's help, Abraham passed. God spared Isaac and provided a substitute. God would face the same test, only this time, God's Son was the subsitute.
