Kingo Lutheran Church - A Brief History
Kingo Lutheran Church, a congregation of the Greater Milwaukee Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) began in 1909 as the Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church.

In 1928 the congregation changed it's name to Kingo Lutheran Church, in honor of the Danish Bishop and hymn writer, Thomas Hansen Kingo.

The congregation purchased land at the church's current location on Olive Street and Wilson Drive in 1945, and the first Worship service and the building's dedication occurred on Easter Sunday in 1951.

Kingo joined in partnership with Hephatha Lutheran (17th and Locust) and All Peoples Church (2600 N 2nd Street)in 1981. Kingo also entered into a relationship with the Mwangaza Centre near Arusha, Tanzania in 1995.

Kingo's Congregation
Today Kingo has approximately 200 baptized members.

In the fall of 2002, Kingo Planning Council adopted 4 words to help focus our ministries together. We believe we are called by God to WELCOME, PROCLAIM, SERVE and GROW.

We are called to WELCOME one another into Christ's love. We welcome the other, knowing that in the face of the other we see Christ's face reflected. In welcoming another, we welcome Christ more deeply into our lives.

We are called to PROCLAIM Christ's love to those we welcome and everyone we meet. We proclaim the Resurrected Christ through our actions, words and deeds. In everything we do we have the opportunity to witness to Christ who gives us life.

We are called to SERVE one another as Christ has served us. Opportunities to serve the people of God exist all around us all the time. We have wonderful opportunities to reach out to help others and in the process we grow and are transformed.

We are called to GROW more deeply in our faith as individuals and communally. Further Christ sends us out to make disciples as we grow deeper in understanding what it means to live within the diverse community of God.

Together we strive to WELCOME PROCLAIM SERVE and GROW as God is calling each!

Kingo's Mission
Along with our vision to WELCOME PROCLAIM SERVE and GROW, members of Kingo Lutheran Church have adoped the following Mission Statement:

Called by God to serve a hurting and broken world, Kingo is a worshipping community that joyously proclaims God's love and blessings through Jesus Christ to all people.

Further, adopting the words of Bishop Thomas Hansen Kingo we pray that we all
"Grow in Grace Each Day."

Kingo's Ministry
MINISTRY:

This word is fo full of meaning that "to serve" seems too simple or general. "Activity for God's purposes" might be a better way to describe and understand ministry.

BAPTIZED INTO MINISTRY:

If you've been baptized, you've been commissioned to work in God's name toward God's purposes. Ministry goes far beyond the work of the pastor. Every baptized member of the Church is called to serve - to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.

MINISTRY IN DAILY LIFE:

Daily life defines the setting for ministry for all baptized people. Whatever our age, vocation, or location - we are witnesses to Christ, called to love as God has loved us!

Because we are saved by grace, and because we've been given the gift of faith, we have the power - through the Holy Spirit - to go forth into the world serving as the hands, feet and mouth of God.
